Help needed to downgrade

Ok, I am probably doing this the wrong way and if I had hair I would be pulling it out.

Is there a guide anywhere where I can downgrade my PSP 2.81 so I can play homebrew stuff?? If there is and I am in the wrong section please point me the right way to go. I have searched high and low for any guide to do this but keep hitting a brick wall. PLEASE help me sort out this problem.

Just to confirm, I have a PSP and I think its a 1003 (well, thats what it says on the bottom of it)
Firmware 2.81, and I have had it a few weeks (impulse buy, I still like my DS!)
