Version 1.1

PlayLive is a pair of applications that lets you control 8 tracks in Ableton Live from your PSP game console.

To run PlayLive you need a PSP (of course) running firmware 1.5 (Others may work, but I haven't tried), and a PC or Mac connected to the same network as your PSP. The PC/Mac will act as the destination for the control data coming out of the PSP and convert it to midi which can be used to control Ableton. The MIDI can either be used to control an external device using a midi out port or a computer program using a midi loopback driver such as MidiYoke ( http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm ) or the Mac IAC MIDI driver.

Prerequisites:
	PSP:
		Firmware 1.5

Installation:
	1. Unzip all the files
	2. Run setup.exe (this binds the psp program to this computer's ip address, if you want to use it on other computers either manually edit serverip.txt in the __SCE__PlayLive directory to be the ip address of the host computer, or re-run setup.exe and repeat step 3)
	3. Copy __SCE__PlayLive and %__SCE__PlayLive to /PSP/GAME/ on your PSP

Running playLive:
	1. Run playlive.exe
	2. On your PSP run playLive
	3. Choose the internet connection that your computer is connected to.

Controls:
	Arrow Keys = Change selected clip
	x = launch selected clip
	o = stop this track
	triangle = global play
	square = global stop
	analog pad = control xy pad
	triggers = Switch xy pads

Launching a clip sends a midi note message. Each track is an octave higher than the last so you can use it as a generic midi controller as well. There are 8 tracks on two pages, to switch pages, just scroll off the left or right of the clip selection window.

There are 4 xy pads which send midi control change messages 0-7. To switch between pads, use the triggers.

Using Playlive with Ableton
	1. Set the midi output of the playlive application to a loopback device sich as midi yoke.
	2. In the Ableton prefecences turn the remote option of the corresponding midi input on.
	3. Either open up the included template, or use midi assign to set up the midi mapping
	4. To assign the xy pads in ableton, use midi assign. Select the first thing you would like to assign, move the pad, then select the second thing and move the pad again. A window will pop up asking if you want to override a previous assignment. Say no, and your controls should be set up.

If you use this program in an interesting way I would love to hear about it. Feel free to email me at rob@e-mu.org . Enjoy!
