ok.. first we need to know what version of firmware that you have... if you don't have 1.5, it won't work without the aid of files... and if you need the files or just need help to start it up, please let me know...

sorry for the question.

I have v.1.52. I keep reading that I need 1.50 to run emulators. I followed all the instructions as above and got the same reply, "The game could not be started. (80020148)" What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I would definately suggest upgrading to a 2.0, and then downgrading to a 1.5. On a 1.52, you really can't run homebrew, but on a 1.5, you can run everything! If you want to upgrade and downgrade, I'll get you everything that'll you'll need! What do you say?

thanks

sure, man. I'll take whatever you have. Thanks. Does it matter what version you have? I have heard if you have 1.5 you can't play some psp games. Can I restore defalt v.1.52? Will changing my version effect or damage my psp?

Yeah, you can only play some of the newer games on a 1.5, but you cant play GTA. PM me about it tomorrow, and I'll get you everything you'll need! And you can restore your settings without damaging your PSP!

wrong on both counts.

1.5 is the most compatible fw version with homebrew out there. if you are referrring to ISOs then yeah some game ISOs require 2.0+ but that can be emulated too. Only certain games like GTA LCS, Smackdown vs Raw etc... cannot be played no matter what...

and if changing fw can harm your PSP there'd be a lot less members here :D

id suggest you talk to PStationP... he's one of the best around here. Lately he's been busy with some work so he might not respond immediately but have patience. he'll gt back to you.

Optionally, look around in these forums... also use the search feature. these tutorials are all spread out in these forums. (Hope the mods do something like copy and paste into the tuts section)

One more thing.

I think I know what to do, as far as the process. upgrade to 2.0 and then downgrade to 1.0. I have read some posts, on other sites saying, upgrading/downgrading can mess up your psp. I just don't want to mess it up and waste $250. Can I ever restore back to 1.52 if i am not satisfied? or even to 2.0?

Well, with what you said, I would recommend that you downgrade because there is always a chance you can brick it, but that barely happens. If you do have a warrenty on your PSP, you might want to take the chance and downgrade, but if you don't I would want you too.... I would recommend upgrading to 2.0(that is safe) and then using the 2.0 eboot loader ( you don't need GTA:LCS to use it ) and then on there, you can run all sorts of homebrew, like emulators, but the only things you couldn't play with the 2.0 eboot loader are smashgp and run ISOs. What do you want to do?

1.5

i'd like to downgrade to 1.5.
I don't have warranty. What's the likelihood that it may brick?
Do I go 2.0 then 1.5? Or straight to 1.5?
