Im assuming it would. Im guessing you mean disk drive. My friend bought another drive and it worked...

To replace it with a different brand drive you still have to read the firmware from the original one, and read the one of the source drive, then put (In jungleflasher) the frimware from your original dvd drive as the source firmware, load the target drives firmware and click "spoof to drive" or w/e the big button in the middle is then flash that firmware to the source drive.

I'm actually doing that tomorrow probably or Saturday so I can make a tutorial for that if you want me to.

The reason for that is because there is a key on the drive that matches the motherboard, and if those keys don't match then it won't work. The only time I would really replace a current drive with a new one is if you have a liteon 8xxx or can afford a BENQ (the best drive imo).
