I'm going to buy a new processor...any recommendations on the best/fastest one out there?

I love AMD. So in my preference a good one would be like a AMD Athlon 64 X2, any speed that you want. But it just depends on what kind of socket is on your motherboard. The only way to tell you a good processor is if we knew what kind of zif socket your motherboard has ;)

AMD Duron 64 is FASTER. my dad had a anthlon, and it is slow. btw i pwn with my 999mhz duron :D

But AMD is a good company. Althought i maight switch to a Intel Quad Core Extreme

mm....no....lol

And duron is definitely not faster! Actually if you ask me intel is for rich people, and amd is for po people like me :p AMD is faster, but Intels architecture is more economical. So why not get AMD? They pwn everyone, in price & speed.

It doesn't? I hate Vista, when I get a computer, somebody get me a pirated version of XP. On the other hand, is Ubuntu a good choice; or Linux, for that matter? I clicked "Other?", by the way. My os is 3.9m33-3, ;).
This is a sig. You may think that there is something to it, but in fact it is just an ordinary sig.

You don't change the number of processors to 2 as you don't have two processors, you have two cores in your processor.

I've never had a problem of vista not recognizing my dual-core proc as a single-core.

@terd, I don't use laptops so I was just referring to desktops, I didn't even think about laptops. Probably should've asked what kind of computer yumiko has, I was just guessing that we were talking about desktops. So in the future, if I give my opinion then I am referring to desktops and not laptops unless otherwise stated ;)
