XP sucks

ok i i was on my "awesome" xp btw last nigh i got viruses galore... and then it f'd up my D drive which i had everythin but the OS in in so im pretty pissed. anyone got any tips on preventing virusus, other than use antivirus.

Don't go to sites that contain viruses? Don't download virus infected files? I don't even use an AV on my XP install, and I have absolutely no problem so what so ever. Use firefox, download "Adblocker Plus" with a good set of filters. Visit only good sites you know of, and if you must visit some keygen site that contains millions of spyware & virus files, then do it in virtual pc.

Either that or use linux. Windows blows anyways.

Be smart and go to websites that don't have viruses on them.
A good idea would be to closely monitor whoever gets on your computer besides you and think before you click.

One of the smartest things I ever did was not let my older brother on this computer.

Also, download Spybot. Immidiately after you think you went to an infected webpage, delete all your cache, history, cookies, everything, and run Spybot.
Just a precaution I do sometimes.

And if you want something illegal (ROMS or Keygens) use a safe site.
I don't know.... my site is pretty safe.... I don't know if there's stuff like that on my site or not. Probably. We share cool files all the time...

EXACTLY! That's what I tell people. I mean before school let out we had to disinfect some girls computer she brought in. That thing I mean we had to let Avast! scan it over night, and that was just the boot scan. I can't remember the exact number but I mean it was incredible how many viruses, trojans, spyware & adware that computer had.

That and don't use limewire or any other program similar to it. I see people downloading like the new movie Wanted off limewire, and the filesize is like 480KB! And they still download it thinking that it is the actual movie!

O and don't have more than 1 AV. More is not better. Have one good AV that does it all, like Avast!. Don't download like free registry cleaners either, the advertised ones usually are infested with spyware too.

Trojans and tracking cookies can be obtained by visiting what you would assume are apparently "safe" sites. Even Myspace will let these things in the door. Nearly any site will. Saying "don't go to infected" sites is some of the worst advice. How is someone to know if they are infected in the first place? You guys didn't even cover that.

Use AVG Internet Security Edition and it will install a toolbar that will help report phishing and other important internet hazards. It will also scan pages for you and let you know if there is anything bad on them the MOMENT you click on them and will offer you the choice to leave the site(s) without causing harm. It also has one of the most advanced anti-spyware, adware, and malware scanners.

It's not free but it's worth the investment or torrent download.

If you don't want viruses and don't want to hear people suggest to use an anti virus, then don't use the computer. That's be my best help in that case. But if you'd rather use the computer, use this program.

The new firefox had a tool that tells you if a site is bad or not. Its vary effective.

I have firefox 3 and I'd still recommend AVG Internet Security. Even if you open a file on your computer itself that is infected, before it opens up and causes harm, AVG will put a prompt on the screen and ask you what you want to do with the file as well as telling you exactly why it prompted your attention.

i have Ad aware 2007, and i got that AVG 7.5 free, buti m going to have to get the new one soon... im to only one who uses it and the sites i go to are mostly the same every day. i picked up some infected .JS files...
and now some sort or worn....ko file.... and nobody uses my computor except for me. and i just started using firefox3

also my keyboard doesnt work until i get on the the logon screen, so i can enter any utilities that controls my harddrives...

im pretty much about to chunk this thing at the wall...

DPM is secure. I can really only account for my own actions. I highly recommend the program though. It's the best I've ever used. XP - Vista - no prob.

I see movies pop up on Limewire that are less than 1 mb and I'm like WTF? Who would fall for that?
And whenever the title of the file is exactly what you searched for in the same order that you looked up is stupid.
There are some dumb people out there.
Mainly in Utah, but whatever. Lmao.


Limewire's actually pretty good. I had it on my computer for the longest time. Now that I know how to search for MP3 files on Google using index searches I don't need it.

Lol, people are idiots! I never get any trojans or viruses or anything. I have McAfee and I do a scan 1-2x a week but I never catch anything. I don't use torrents, I usually just do direct-dl sites.

pff i use torrents, but then again i stick to my usual sites. Once a week i run McAfee (free from school) and adAware (newest one that came out about a month or two ago). Comp stays pretty clean as long as you check it every once in a while.
Also, the experts say that you should reformat/restore once a year to keep everything running smoothly and efficiently.
