GENEVA (AP) — Television host Jay Leno has won control of a Web address using the name of his new show.

The U.N.'s World Intellectual Property Organization says current owner Guadalupe Zambrano of Katy, Texas, will have to transfer the domain name — thejaylenoshow.com — to the comedian.

The agency says Zambrano failed to demonstrate he had a legitimate reason for registering the address five years ago while Leno was still hosting "The Tonight Show."

Zambrano used the site to redirect Web surfers to his real estate business.

"The Jay Leno Show" premieres Sept. 14 on NBC.

NBC is owned by General Electric Co.

Lol, are they in charge of the internet now? That is weird, the guy had rightful ownership. I wonder if he was compensated at all.

In Jay Leno's defence he is actualy going to use the website, not just using it to basicly link it to His buisness. But i personaly get pi**ed off when stuff like this happons. The UN are Dicks by the sounds of things, this guy rightfull had the webpage. If he doesn't get compansation im going to be supprised but now adays he probaly won't.

I agree with you, you can do all even it is in the online or offline. If you have money you can do all things possible correct me if I am wrong. But choosing in name of a site is depend on the content that you can put it in if the name of the site is relate.

Yeah, and what happened if the person who owned the site was not in America? What if they lived in Brazil? Could they force him to give up the domain?

Everyone knows the internet is dominated by North America... Even if someone in Brazil had the domain name, they probably registered it from a North American service, or a North American service reseller.
