Best DVD Ripping/ Compressing Software?

It's been years since I went looking for good software for ripping DVD's to the computer but now I have an external hard drive that I have set to the side specifically for DVD's and I'm wondering what the best options are for software to help me out. You guys have any suggestions?

If it's not freeware, I'm sure I can get it otherwise, but freeware would be the preferred method as long as the files aren't riddled with garbage malware or anything like that. It's just been so long since I used this kinda stuff. I've used Clone DVD in the past as well as Alcohol 120 but I am definitely NOT up-to-speed on the latest versions and stuff.

That's the same thing I use. Either that or add Premiere Pro in the mix to adjust some things and your golden :)

I use magic dvd ripper. It's always worked for me.
Each of you has a remote to blow up the other boat. At midnight, I blow you all up. If, however, one of you presses the button, I'll let that boat live. So, who's it going to be: Harvey Dent's most wanted scumbag collection, or the sweet and innocent civilians? You choose. Oh, and you might want to decide quickly, because the people on the other boat might not be so noble.

Pritty sure you can't watch a zip file on your dvd player. Or at least not on any dvd player in my house, you must have some fancy stuff us po folk don't have.

Said file shouldn't be smaller after unzipping but that wasn't the type of "compression" method I was mentioning. Perhaps it's best just to leave the file as a 1:1 rip.
