Good Idea?

I was thinking about hacking the Xbox 360 hard drives, and making custom 250GB versions, and selling for $100USD. Does that sound like something worth investing in? I think I'll start with eBay, but if anyone on Brew wants one, I'll probably sell at a discount. Just wondering if people who don't hack the 360 would even be interested in it. Let me know! I'd hate to waste a bunch of time and $$$ and not make anything.

Yeah its a good idea... and I would buy it if I was living in the US, but I'm not....

And I don't think people who aren't interested in hacking they're XBOX would want it.... But there are millions who want hacked ones...

Actually hacked hard drives haven't really been known for getting someone banned, and you can still use them but I really do hate when someone tries to sell a hard drive on ebay and pass it off as a legit hard drive. It's just not ethical at all, tons of people sell fake drives on ebay as it is.

You don't need a "hacked" xbox to use one though, anyone can use it all you need to do is flash a Western Digital 2.5" BEV HD with the hddss.bin from a legit drive and it works similar to a legit hd. It can be discovered though from microsoft pretty easily.

And with the recent update to freeBOOT v0.02 you can now use any hard drive you want to and soon play games directly off the HD. It's really amazing that you can now run unsigned XEX's (like on the dev kit) on any box that is capable of the JTAG hack.

Just wanting to put that information out for anyone wondering.

I hope Datel looses.
I hate them. They stole data from Dark Alex and said they did it.
They also said they were releasing a Pandora battery for the PSP-3000 that would fully work.
Where's it at?

If it goes the other way ill be happy, but i highly highly doubt it will.

Limiting the competition in a monopolistic way isnt legal and even Microsoft has to play by those rules.

They dont have have a monopoly on the game system market (ie PS3 and Wii) but I still think they are making a monopoly on accessories i think.

From your link-

That Link wrote:A monopoly power is defined as the ability of a business to control a price within its relevant product market or its geographic market or to exclude a competitor from doing business within its relevant product market or geographic market. It is only necessary to prove the business had the "power" to raise prices or exclude competitors. The plaintiff does not need to prove that prices were actually raised or that competitors were actually excluded from the market."

Which is exactly what Microsoft is doing by not allowing any other save device..and keeping their prices high on HDDs.

I still dont see how that will fly in court. " And only ones with the latest update"? That is 17 Million. You lose 17 million customers and you dont just lose the majority, you lose your customer base. Which in turn makes you not able to "compete". Thats the whole reason for the monopoly law.

"It is only necessary to prove the business had the "power" to raise prices or exclude competitors."
They did that. Datel can easily prove that. I dont see why a court wouldnt rule in favor of Datel.

asddasit wrote:Yes but that doesnt really apply, they can make all the game memory tools they want, and they will work on some xbox's. Its not MS's fault that to keep piracy down they have to have a update, and datels product stops working with xbox. (Only ones with the newest update mind you)

To me, thats like saying Comcast put out an "update" to only allow you to watch their programs on a special brand of TV they bought. Why? Because some subscribers DVRd certain shows and sold them. Not the majority of subscribers- just a few. Anti-consumer- Yes. Monopoly- Yes. Sucks for you- Yes indeed.
