Xbox 360 RROD fixes?

I hear ace and others on here mentioning how easy the RROD errors are to fix but I haven't really looked too far into just exactly how. What are the most common ways to fix RROD? I have one Xbox with a bad DVD drive and one with an E65 error code, I believe it is. Tips/ Suggestions?

well, the best way i have EVER seen is to put it in the oven. no joke, it melts the solder back. ive done it, but i cant test it on a bad power supply. safer than towel trick and cheeper than xclamp fix.

However, I tried fixing mine afterwards and I messed up.
It's so much easier just to send it in. I sent mine in for free all I had to pay was shipping.

Microsoft wouldn't accept the condition of the units to send them back in, so I have to fix them myself.

say, have mobo i can get off you? maybe one with a simple rrod on it? want to trade for mine(dont know why youd want to)

If you are willing to pay $100 for an out of warranty repair you have yourself a new 360.

Call them (800) 4MY-XBOX or (425) 635-7180.

just go on craigslist and search for someone in your area who can fix them by reflowing the solder joints (this is the only way to repair it without doing any further damage to your xbox). Make sure you ask to see their equipment as well. People usually charge around $20 for the repair. Most xbox's are repairable but depending on how hot the motherboard got, it might be so warped that the solder joints wont be able to stay in contact with the gpu. If i were you i would also get them to perform the x-clamp fix as well because when the xbox heats up, the motherboard shifts around...the x-clamps prevent the motherboard from moving.

by the way que, you dont get a new xbox...you get a refurbished xbox. and if you're willing to pay $100 you might as well just get a new arcade system.

True that you get a refurbished system that includes a 1 year warranty from Microsoft.

It all depends on how cheap you are. With $200 You can buy a new system or spend $100 on a system and have enough left over for a game or two of your choosing.

my roommate did the penny trick and he hasn't had a problem since.

penny trick didnt work for me. oven (heat gun) does it better. permanent that way

yeaaaa. heat gun. make sure you cover sensitive parts with foil

i remember devilsadvocate always told people to put memory cards or something in the microwave for exactly 1 second in order to fix it, i was never sure if it was a joke or not, so who really knows about the oven..

also heard something about using 'arctic silver' glue or something that you can buy at radioshack to fix it - give it a google.
