Airport Security Gone To Far

Alright so I know a lot of you probably heard about the recent bombing attempt with the bomb and the persons pants. Well now with new security cameras, the people watching the passengers walk through can now see everything. I seriously think this violates everybody's personal space and rights. Think about little kids walking through these scanners and you have some pedophile behind the camera watching. Disgusting.
Because of this and all the new security measures including not being able to get up within the first hour of the flight or last hour, no electronics or books or anything in your hands, and so on. I will probably not fly.
Thoughts?

I dont think it shows peoples private parts or anything dude. Its probably almost like an Xray or metal detector. If they see anything suspicious they take a look.

Id rather be safe then sorry honestly.

It all goes back to privacy, and in an airport with a million other (crazy) people, i would glady walk through one of these.

Well, its not like a full on colored picture of your parts but they did a news part on CNN where the broadcaster went through one of them and they black it out, and he said you are basically just took a nude photo of me. I am not completely sure, but you would obviously get more of an outline then the traditional x-ray.

I Am not sure if its just me, but I would much rather have privacy over security.

Dude, using the method I outlined, you can see everything it's just not in flesh color. For instance, say you wanted to check out a girl's rack. You can. You can see the definition of her breasts and even her nipples using those things.

Well, anything related to child pornography and pedophilia is a red flag for airports. They will simply not hire people if they have it on their record or any felonies. So, I wouldn't mind someone looking at my stuff. But, they cannot see your body like the way you're thinking. They can see through your luggage with nearly full color but that's why it goes through that box. It needs to be almost light-tight like a camera and a tiny bit of radiation is emitted so, if they did use that method, they would be required to warn you because some elderly people or people with medical problems could be lethally effected. You don't really need to worry about them looking at you naked, anyways. It's more of an MRI-type processing. Like stated above, it is not correct colors or levels, and it is take in slices. I've personally seen them using this technology and there's no way they could do it to you just by passing through a 1-foot sensor.
On another note, I don't find anything wrong with not being allowed to have anything in your laps or not. Think of the airlines as businesses and it will make more sense. If you're going to use their services, then they can require you to do anything that they want you to. What if a hotel had a mandate that stated that everybody had to sleep with a dorky elf hat? Well, either you sleep with it or you find somewhere else to sleep.
They do need to up security, but I doubt what they are doing now will make an impact.

Anyone notice how just like on 9/11 there were warnings about an upcoming plot and despite the existence of Homeland Security today, none of the agencies did anything about it? Can one person working alone make a nation's "security" ineffective? Are "security" agencies incompetent, or... was this allowed to happen?

The war on terror can never be won, ever. As has been shown a "terror" plot need not succeed for it to be effective, it only needs to be made public. The worse part is that the "real" terror suspects then become people like you and I. Everyday law abiding citizens will be scrutinized all in the name of security.

Here is what the scanners show:
ImageThe truth of the matter is that this scanner would NOT have detected any combustibles; it is an overkill metal detector, nothing more. The millimeter wave scanner is really intended to give a sense of security, that something more is being done to prevent incidents.

The worse part is that as people get used to and accept these scans they will spread more and more. Next thing you know you will get scanned to go to the stadium, mall, school etc. until the scanners are everywhere.

People will gradually give up more and more of their freedom in exchange for security until they wake up one day and realize they have neither.
The programmers you will one day be looking to hire are the ones reading the tech news sites right now.

And they will remember...

But there are cameras that can get much more detailed than that - and don't think that they wouldn't eventually be using them.

Think of the new scanners as a faster pat down. They do not detect anything. All they do is basically see through clothing. You could have C4 hidden up your a** and no one would be the wiser (unless it's metallic, don't know to be honest). This will allow detection of anything strapped to the outside of the body. And the images do get MUCH more detailed than what crait showed.

Image

They have it set up so that the images are displayed in a secluded room and the techs cannot see the people going through. They are not allowed cameras or cell phones. If there is an issue, they radio the agent actually working the gate. There are various software filters being applied to faces and private parts but as of yet no standard has been applied. And as of now where the scanners are set up, you can pass on the scan and request a physical pat down.

Personally, I'd walk through the scanner as long as everyone else was. There are plenty of other places I take issue with privacy, but I don't want the plane I'm on blowing up because of some d**chbag terrorist.

The scanners are a big inconvenience that actually accomplish little(nice crack btw). They would not have averted the incident in question and now people can't even so much as read a book or go to the bathroom during the last hour of the flight because of 1 incident. This is exactly what I mean by giving up a bit of your freedom.

Years ago, (before our time) people were allowed to help friends and family load their bags in the overhead. Then they were only allowed to greet and wave them off at the gate, now you can barely get past the ticket counter without a pass.

All it takes is 1 incident before it is made out to be a crisis and a knee jerk reaction affects the nation.

And it doesn't have to stop at the airport...

Sidenote: The Douchebag in question was on the terror watch list but did not make it to the no-fly list. Toddlers and Senators can get on the no-fly list but not "Al-Qaeda" agents? I wonder if anyone will get fired for this.
