DVD-R Help?

Ok so, my uncle gave me his DVD Recorder, That plays dvds and records them and I wanted to record my gameplay on xbox so i hoolked the RGY things into the dvd recorder and hit record. It playedback correctly and everything. I went to put it in my computer and it said it was an empty disk and that i could format it and it was formatting and taking ages to do it so i took the disk out. I tried to put it back into my dvd player and it said that i cant play the disk. Idk what to do... Its my only DVD-r disk i own. Can i fix this?

Prob not. I don't know enough about your hardware to say for sure.

Have other DVD-R worked in your PC? If so then I would check how that recorder you got from your uncle encodes the data. You could also just have a really cheap substandard generic DVD-R. Buy some more and try again. If it fails then toss the recorder.

Your uncle gave it away for a reason.

Well you can only write on a DVD-R once. Idk if youv seen before, but thats the difference between DVD-R and DVD-RW. You can rewrite on the RW ones more than once.

Also, you need to "finalize" the disk before moving it from that DVD player. Doing this lets you play it in other DVD players, Laptops, PCs, stuff like that. Warning tho, when you finalize you cant use the disk again.

Well... I didnt finalize it or whatever. It was playing back on the dvd player perfectly fine then i stopped in the middle of playback cause it was too long. I put the cd in my lapotop and it started to say Formatting empty disk. Then i canceled it and that happened.
