Image Help

Alright everybody, need some help. Possible a lot of help :P

I want to do a little personal project for my self and possibly share it for friends, and of course you guys if you wanted. But I want to see how hard it would be first.

I want to create a website where I can upload anything I want, mainly images. Like imageshack and so on, but my own personal one. I want to run it from my own computer so I can have as much storage and bandwidth as possible because hosts are expensive. But I don't know where to start :P Not sure if you guys are the right audience to ask or not but its worth a shot ahah. I know I have to create my own host so I will I am assuming have to use some software, second is how to get a domain on my own hosted host, and thirdly the coding for uploading.

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! But.... I want to host it myself. I know a lot more work but then it doesn't cast me, plus I have as much bandwidth and storage I want.

keep in mind you can't put ANYTHING on your site. If you make it public and you have illegal material on there, you can be held responsible if you get caught.

Yea, I am thinking of having a password on it or registration for a limited number of people and set a upload limit / not allow .rar .torrent etc.

To be honest mate it sounds like your going to alot of hassle for nothing, just create a photobucket account and use that. Then you'll still have full controll of your images and also make it private if required. Just an idea tho. But good luck if you decide to do what your doing

Sounds like you're just trying to setup your own personal FTP server or something? There should be plenty of guides online. The PSP can even be used as one I think.

Yea but everything has limits, I want to have as much storage and bandwidth as possible. Its nice because I know my stuff / stuff I am storing for other people will always be there. Like I use to use an independently own image host but they shut down and guess what? I lost thousands of photos and files equaling way over 8GBs. Thanks for the encouragement though :P I hope to get this up and running when I get some free time :)

Thanks for the information :) My PSP is still bricked though aha. I kind of want my own Photobucket though but personal. I guess that would be a FTP thing but I also want to share it with friends and family and so on.

Thanks, I heard about WAMP before going to try it when I get some free time. Might have to upgrade my ISP though because on my level they don't allow the use of that kind of stuff but, there wouldn't be hardly enough traffic to draw their attention and get me in trouble. But I will see. Now to get some knowledge of coding and free time and I am set. Hopefully.

EDIT

Alright so I got WAMP up and running, I have installed that script that you send me Mailas but when I try to upload a file it gives me this warning.

Warning: copy(images/1269144980.png) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\wamp\www\images\image.php on line 58
Copy unsuccessfull!

So not sure what to do ?

Hm that's strange.
So you're just directly copying a file into that directory?

Are the permissions to that folder fine? And are you sure the dir URL you entered is fine?

It's very odd because you told me you were able to install wordpress on it.
How exactly are you uploading files to it? Because all it literally requires is going into:
C:\WAMP\www and placing your files in there, FTP won't work.

It could also be the code in image.php.

I changed no coding in the image.php file. All the permissions are set so they have access to everything. Umm. I am just uploading files by going to the http://localhost/images/image.php selecting the browse looking for the image and then clicking upload thats how I get the error.

Oh this is an image uploader. Ah I see now.
The PHP file is most likely faulty.

Well mostly an image upload, I want it to be able to do some other files to. So now I have a new script and its working and everything and I have the IP domain now. I have another problem :P This script is meant just for images

// validation... since this is an image upload script we
// should run a check to make sure the upload is an image
@getimagesize($_FILES[$fieldname]['tmp_name'])
or error('only image uploads are allowed', $uploadForm);

how do I change that so it will let me upload any file?
