I don't really have a lot of time for gaming, so unfortunately my PS3 goes mostly unused. If only there was mkv support for the PS3, then it would be on all the time streaming my videos. I had some fun a while back sticking Yellow Dog Linux on it and getting some emulators working with the 6 axis. Since then I've gotten all the same stuff set up on my PC, so no need for the Linux partition. Lots of fun little things you can do with the system. Just wish they could get homebrew going on it, although that's probably over a year away, if ever.

Well, the way I see it... the model most known for backwards compatibility is the 60gb. Lots of people forget about the 80 and the 40's are kinda dodgy with that dual laser thing they got going on. I checked ebay for broken 60gb Playstation 3 systems and they sell for $150-320 B-R-O-K-E-N in the same way this one is, so if the laser repair doesn't work, I can still sell it and put the money towards a brand new one. Just the same, if it works fine, I can sell it for even more if I wanted and get a PS3 and Xbox 360 if I wanted... so I mean, I think I did the right thing letting the Xbox 360 go for this.

DPM, you did a great trade-off especially since this'll give you XP towards your computer fixing skill level.

lol, as if I needed "more exp". I think it's a great trade though, personally, since I'm almost bound to benefit more from a PS3 than a 360 for my needs/ gaming style. Truthfully, a lot of people don't think that free online matters, but it's one of the biggest things for me. I refuse to pay for an online "service". The "service" is that I purchased the game and I'd expect to be able to play online if I do, not pay an additional fee. But that's just me.

Same goes for me. I refuse to pay for something that I can get for free elsewhere.

If you do get it going 100% than you can flip it for quite the profit if you want. Last I checked you could find backwards compatibility PS3's going for WAY more than MSRP.

But I read that it's only the 40 gig models that had max compatibility. The 60 gig models have limited compatibility.

I was waiting to buy a full BC PS3 but I highly doubt they will. They will probably just make a software BC system and make people buy all the games over the PSN!

Nah... They will eventually come out with software based backwards compatibility. It'll just take a really long time to get emulators running every game at full speed.

I thought that was just for game saves from older Playstations.
