Survey:
Section 1
Short Answers
1. What is your favorite video game as of now?
A.) Age of Mythology: The Titans Expansion
2. What is your favorite RPG game?
A.) Final Fantasy IX (9) or Pokemon Red
3. Between 1 and 10, how important is the graphic quality within a game as long as it is still completely playable? (10 is most important thing while 1 is not even taking it into consideration.)
A.) Graphics are greatly important, however, core gameplay mechanics MUST be addressed. There's no sense
in a highly graphical game with bugs/ collision issues/ missing textures. Physics, within the last decade,
have become much more important than graphics, in my opinion, since games are often laughed at when
objects don't behave how they would "in real life", which is where much of the "realism" debate comes from.
4. Do you prefer online games versus offline games?
A.) I prefer mostly (90%) offline games.
5. Do you prefer online RPG's or offline RPG?
A.) Please God, online RPG's. Never played anything "Dungeons & Dragons"-like and never will.
No offense to anyone who enjoys those games, but I find them incredibly geeky/ nerdy and I
can't bring myself to even give them a chance without a proper pocket protector.
6. Which home console is your favorite between the PS2, XBox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii?
A.) PC / PS2 / PS3 / Wii / Xbox 360 (PC being the favorite).
7. What RPG is your least favorite or did you hate the most?
A.) If I don't like an RPG, I usually drop it immediately, so it's hard to tell. I'd probably
have to say Baldur's Gate, although that'd probably royally piss off RPG fans of that
type of genre. I got the game for free and used two discs as coasters for a while.
8. What RPG have you spent the most time playing out of your entire lifetime?
A.) I have no clue but I've put time on almost all of the Gameboy Pokemon variants. In fact,
I just downloaded Pokemon Heart Gold and started going through that as well. I like the
core mechanics of the series so much that I keep playing because of it even though I don't
really even like Pokemon, as an idea, as I do the gameplay/ game mechanics as merely a game.
Section 2
Medium Answer
1. What was your most favorite thing about your favorite RPG?
A.) With Final Fantasy 9, the amazing storyline and how the game felt it was "yours to explore".
With Pokemon Red, or other Pokemon games, it's the game mechanics and virtually unlimited
methods of play and replay value that determine how much I like it.
2. What was the worst part about your favorite RPG?
A.) Final Fantasy 9 didn't focus too much on side quests aside from the Chocobo stuff, but in my
opinion it doesn't matter because it was a fantastic game in "linear" fashion. Pokemon games
lack tons of extras and customization that I wish were included.
3. What is the most important element in any RPG that you would play?
A.) Normally customization and replay value.
4. What is the biggest turn-off with RPG's? (What automatically makes you not want to play them?)
A.) Anything that takes 4 years to get to level 2.
5. What makes you not want to play a game anymore? (If various reasons, give a small sentence stating each.)
A.) Repetitive gameplay without reward (with exception of arcade-type games where the higher your
"high score" means you have a larger johnson).
6. When you play MMO's, what is the most important aspect of the RPG? What do you spend most of your time doing?
A.) Customizing and character building. If a game requires me to follow a path that I don't want to play but
offers "limitless" gameplay, I grow kind of frustrated. I don't play MMO's much, however.
