Speaking of Linux / Windows and customer service/ experience. I was combing around to see how diluted Linux users are. This user here claims that this list of things is stuff that Linux can do that Windows can't.

Aside from two of his points, those being "installing the OS for free and getting free stuff", Windows does everything else lol. Not to mention, you can pirate Windows and if you wanted you can download all of the free open source stuff that Linux has but on Windows... lol

Bet Linux doesn't support the very latest graphics drivers and play Battlefield Bad Company 2 at 2048 x 1152 resolution though.

ok, i will admit there are idiots out there, but they are everywhere, so thats not fair. i can list you dilluted MAC users, and i bet theres a freakin lot.

windows users? packman, do you realize that most people dont even know what operating system they are on?
that if you ask someone what version of windows they have, they have no clue, and could be running 98 for all they know?

and linux can do a LOT of stuff. how do you know it doesnt support that resolution? have you ever tried? do you even USE linux? ive told you before that linux can run (almost) everything windows can run, but it runs it better. to quote false_chicken
"its such a light OS, it requires so little to do what windows can" (now i moshed some words, but in effect, thats it)

linux can run things faster and cleaner then windows could ever HOPE to run things. windows is simply to bulky.

you'd be surprised at all the gamers on linux

EDIT

pacman, did you even read that link at all? are you blind? he even made it BOLD FOR YOU. no offense, but i think youre the "idiot" in this situation.

he isnt lying, faking, cheating, or anything here. if you READ IT then youll understand.

In my opinion, you shouldn't have to "try" to get basic things working such as graphic resolutions, apart from getting the needed drivers and programs for your hardware.

Windows is better because more people use it, and today is supply and demand.

There are more windows users IE Windows is a priority amongst hardware etc.

Windows will always be supported by pretty much everything. Linux doesn't and probably never will, get over it.

And I guess linux is alright if you have a garbage rig, trying to game with your 256mb of RAM, and integrated card.

nice cannon fodder. have you ANY experience with linux? have you ever GAMED on linux? and do you know ANYTHING about its compatibility?

your last post says your clueless to what your trying to say. your incorrect. completely

You're responses are always "you're wrong" and never why the person is wrong I'm noticing a pattern here.

Please describe to me how I am wrong, granted it may be a "lighter" OS but it lacks the compatibility that windows has simply because everyone uses it, also don't flip your wig I'm just presenting facts.

i explained why your wrong! you have no experience, so you cant say ANYTHING.

thats like saying "yeah, the android has like, no compatibility for (insert app here)"
no I have no expereince with an android, yeah ive played with one, but i have no experience with what it can and cant do.

I love how you can tell me what I have and haven't done, don't assume.

But even if I hadn't used it (Which I have, I had it on an old laptop I rebuilt) I can cite some examples.

airplanes wrote:I remember hearing about how steam would never come out with a version for linux, however, ever since the release of steam for MAC, linux users have been given rumors that a linux version is in the works.

i currently run stema under wine, and it doesnt always cut it.

any input yourselves?

Linux is nice, but it is not better. It's not better because it's free. The commercial support it is lacking has to be done by third-party solutions like people at their own homes. If I wanted to run a windows program, I'd have to go out of my way and find whatever custom fix there is for it, patch, installer package etc. Meanwhile, I can just hit install on windows and it's there. No, I'm not naive about Linux. I used it for almost half a year on Ubuntu. The problem is that "while linux CAN RUN many things that Windows can, you have to perform anywhere from 3 to a dozen different steps to get it working. Every step of which is not necessary.

Linux isn't "faster than Windows ever hopes to be". Naturally, if you put linux on a POS computer with 256mb of RAM and a barely-there single or dual core processor, yeah, you'll probably notice more speed increases in Linux because hardly nothing is run in the background. Personally, I prefer my background processes to be going and helping maintain security and the such without compatibility issues.

My quad core with 8gb of ram is not going to go faster on Linux. It's not going to be as supported. It's not going to play the latest and greatest games without a NASA scientist coming through first telling you where to copy/ paste a certain bit of code to. Linux cannot compare to the commercial agenda and the naturally more-supported Windows operating system. I used to think it was cool until I got a computer that could actually do some serious work, and when I did, Linux was garbage again.

Have you ever tried to get a wifi driver to work with linux? i went online and downloaded 3 completely different linux builds. none of them ran my network card on install. also my internet speed was SLOWER. drove me bonkers when i finally did get my card working.

Linux can do ALOT of stuff. Its more secure than anything I've used. This is probably because no one uses it though. However there is nothing that can replace the way windows locates drivers.

That's because there's nothing to install on a Linux system... or if there is you can't figure out how to do it.
