Thats basically Brew for you. The site went down hill a long time ago, even if we ever (Nik/DPM) do these upgrades it will never be at its original status and fame. I agree with everything crait is saying, especially as one of the original members basically. But basically whenever we have something to say it just gets turned down, and becomes this type of topic. Like the rest of the forum.

Da Cool Man wrote:I'm just going to ignore the above post, I don't want to start a fight here, that is if that was a sarcastic post(duh)....

@DPM - crait has been here for so effing long, has a big no. of posts, so why doesn't he deserve to be a mod? If he does know all the stuff he is talking about then it would just speed up the upgrade progress, and I think he has been posting useful stuff, and has been here long enough to earn the trust to gain the ability to help...

I agree with you on that one.

Let me address a few issues regarding posts that have been made since my last one.

1. Staff Resumes: I've mentioned in the past that any members constantly bothering or bickering about being staff members are highly unlikely to ever achieve said status. I've also, at various times, called on the support of the forum openly asking for people to post or private message me in which way(s) they can help around the site and HAVE made staff appointments based on that feedback. I think it's foolish for people to be bashing me when I make an open call to put in a resume for a staff position here. I am the administrator. I'm asking for resumes. End of story. Every individual member is entitled to their own opinion, but the names from this thread bashing that idea merely because of the "if you ask, you won't receive notion" are the same people that will not receive a staff position now anyways. I mentioned that I don't think that there will be a need for other staff at this time, but I didn't mention that Ace was bumped to administrator and that it's highly likely that we're headed towards a staff led by a board of administrators with a separate hierarchy for moderator staff as well as "Feature" news articles (among other things). It's something I can't foresee, but it's not unlikely that we'll need extra staff. We may, and so I ask for private messages from those who think they can help. I've received none so far, so for those of you bickering about becoming staff members while making no effort to become one and ridiculing others who would like to be, you folks won't "just be given staff positions" for being here a long time or posting helpful posts, and I promise you that.

2. Most Likely New Staff: The first staff positions that will readily be open and available, that I plan on creating, will be for feature news articles. Things like company trends, sales numbers, feature reviews on the latest hit game, press releases from game companies/ developers etc. I want to legitimize the influx of information to our front page and have a fun time doing it, so there will be a group of people dedicated towards that purpose. The number of people I'm actually going to dip outside of the current staff to recruit, however, is what is up in the air - something I don't have the answer to yet.

3. crait being staff: crait has in the past been a staff member and continues to be a member held with a higher degree over others for knowledgeable posts, coherent helping with other members, remaining a member for a long time, and for his coding releases. Those things alone do not make someone a staff member or worthy of being one. There is no such thing as being "worthy of being staff" and there certainly isn't any point in time in which any member is regarded as staff-worthy simply for their time dedicated towards being a helpful member. It's a plus, not a guarantee.

4. @crait regarding helping: Shut up, please? Nik knows how to do the porting of the features. He's the one that created them in the first place, it's just that he's leaning towards creating a general RSS feed type download service that will download all of the stuff to our server, then host it ourselves and continually update. I am against that idea as it increases cost and creates the potential to have at least one full time staff member dedicated towards keeping the downloads updated with the recent/ best things. I think that will eventually become a broken system. It's more or less a debate than a technical stalemate. When we decide on a finalized template for the setup, you will most likely be given access to see what is going on and be able to have your input considered, as I've planned on doing and have told you personally outside of the forum, so just hush. We're not at that point yet. The forums and some features are ported fine though, but we also want to consolidate some things or get rid of others.

You shouldn't have to be a staff member to help the forum.

I never said that. I also believe though, in addition to what you believe, that you shouldn't have to have such a negative attitude towards things. That also doesn't help.

I'm not being negative just for the sake of doing it.

There's just tons of things that don't make sense here. (Not a slam at the site, just stating an opinion)

@DPM: When have I been a staff member? When I posted news? And you told me that no one can see the site until it's finally released and that I need to be quiet about helping because I won't ever get to. Do you really want me to hush? Everyone seems to be agreeing with me....

As Devil's Advocate stated, turning in a resume is a joke. It's completely obvious who has the leadership and the time to be a moderator, news poster, administrator, or whatever and it's equally obvious as to who shouldn't be part of the administration. It should be based on how much someone is willing to help other and how often they contribute to the site.

Yep, the ones that don't listen to the administration on turning in a resume in the first play

No, the ones that don't care enough about the site to come on and post around to make sure the site stays active and alive. Or the ones that don't welcome new members. Or the ones that don't help other members. Or the ones that don't listen to what the entire community is saying. Or the ones that act like it's a chore to help. Or the ones that post 4 times a month.

I don't understand how you think being a moderator will change any of this, or being on the staff for that matter. Okay, say dpm made crait a moderator. How will anything change? A moderator is made to enforce the rules, if you want to help with the site then you can already do just as much as I can do. I can't do anymore then any other member when it comes to something like this other then voice my opinion.

I didn't say to make me staff. I offered to help with the new site and the custom coding for the server and new forum.
I do more than enough of the moderator's job already without the title... The only thing I can't do is delete spam. I can ignore it. Again, I'm not saying to make me any part of staff. I see a need for help and I'm offering-That's all I'm doing.
When BKF tells me to shut up for offering my help, that makes me a little cranky. You're lucky that you get to voice your opinion.

I was referencing the other people that have asked to be moderators or said you should be a moderator. Although if you did more then enough of the moderator's job already then my job would be a lot easier, too bad it isn't. I get a lot more pm's about users breaking rules from que then anyone, which is after all what you are supposed to do. But deleting spam is a majority of my job since it seems people always throw temper tantrums when you tell them to follow the rules, and threaten to leave the site.

But anyways, to everyone on the forum the only real difference between a regular user and a moderator is that you enforce the rules by deleting spam or locking topics. Everyone can voice their opinion just as much as I do. So going off that, is there ANY more possible advice aside from let a coder help? In the end the forum is owned by a primate, and it's his choice if he lets anyone help him or not.
