Site Upgrade Status: Extended Deadline
Hello Brewers,
Monkeymaximus and I have been discussing and implementing changes to the new website and the build is coming along a little bit but we're having big problems related to transferring over our download sections since they were primarily RSS'd before. Monkeymaximus himself is unsure of which road he'd like to take regarding solving this issue. We have three options.
1. Begin hosting the files 100% ourselves (increasing cost also).
2. Reconstruct a new RSS system to deliver the downloads effectively in the new website.
3. Take out downloads entirely (or until options 1 or 2 are put into place).
This is not the only "big" problem either. We've also ran into some issues with graphics and layout - how we're trying to construct the new site. The issue isn't necessarily whether or not the images will "look good", but that the site will function better off than our current build, which at the moment, it isn't. BKF, myself and monkeymaximus each took some time a while back coming up with the actual site links/ transferring of some data, and decided which features we'd do without (at least for the time being) once the new site is built. We've decided that things like PS3 saves and other game saves, also features which are RSS'd as well as stored on our servers, will have to be one thing that we work on either before or after the site switch-over, but also something that isn't a 1st rate concern.
For things we're considering 1st rate concerns, considerate progress has been and is being made. The site functions well-enough in a text-based state but lacks features that we either can't update or don't exactly know how to yet, so additional time is expected on our end, therefor, I'm letting you guys know what's going on. For things that were heavily custom coded in this edition of the site, we're having an increasingly hard time learning how to port them over and make them into working features. Monkeymaximus wanted the new site launched about halfway through last month and we were unexpectedly pushed back after recognizing the feat in front of us as well as having limited time to gather 'round the table and shoot the sh*t regarding the site construction.
Patience is a virtue we're expecting the members are willing to cope with while us staff members pull our hair out lol
I'll still be keeping everyone updated on the status as I know and as I can.
