-_- They are automatically installed with PHPBB3. My site has them, but you can easily disable them or hide them. They make it so that Brewology has more hits coming from Google or Bing or whatever.

I wasn't aware that a bot had to be running for brew to show up on google -.-

It's not that it has to be running, it so we have more hits like crait said. I don't understand what else a Google [Bot] would be doing.

Well unless its some sort of google spammer I still don't see why a bot is required to bring us more hits lol.
