New netbook

Ok, so I'm just posting here to see if anyone had some insight. I've done tons of research of netbook models and I've narrowed it down to the Asus 1005PE.

Basically, I want some entertainment on my flight home from Australia and for any other trips I make. With this I will be able to play SD video for around 8 hours. Also, with me going back to school I can take this if I don't need to bring my full powered laptop. And for around the house I can easily have this to remote into my full powered laptop or old tower turned media server while I'm in the living room and not in my room.

So if you have a netbook, have looked at netbooks, anything. Any comments, suggestions, criticisms... I'm looking at ordering it soon so I can play with it beforehand. I won't actually need it until the beginning of June so it still gives me a month and a half until I need to order something.

Well, I pulled the trigger and ordered it last night. Not exactly sure how long it will take to get here since I ordered it from the states and my parents are going to relay it here to Australia. It doesn't have the horsepower to process HD video, but with a 10 in screen why would it need to? Besides, including the power cord it's less than 4 pounds and lasts around 12 hours with light usage.

This little guy's gonna be fun to tinker with!

I personally like the Acer netbook.
But even more personally, I hate netbooks. >_>

Ugh, just too small, all though it does play a consistent amount of games.
Also a great developing platform for me.

Yeah! finally got my new netbook!!! It's taking a bit of adjustment to type on the smaller keyboard, but so far so good. I'm loving this thing. Still have to install some apps on it to see what it's capable of.

Acer is horrible for netbooks, however this one seems alright. Only short of a decent CPU, however for what you're doing with it you won't need it anyway.

It's a good thing I got an ASUS then... and ASUS is the leader for netbooks. I got to spend some time with it last night. Still getting things set up on it so not much play time, but it's awesome. I was doing so much and mutitasking... spent hours on the thing and the battery still had more than 60% by the time I shut it down. I got Media Player Classic installed with CoreAVC and AC3 Splitter installed last night, so tonight I'll see what it can handle video wise.

I could play GTA San Andreas on mine, which is pretty damn good.

I'd have to disagree with the acer comment, to be honest I don't really have much first hand experience with acer laptops but I got my acer netbook quite some time ago and it seems pretty awesome. For a netbook it can do a lot more then I thought, has a N270 (only 15 pts less then the N450 on the passmark tests), 2gb of ram, and 160gb hd which is fine for what I do. The most I've used it for is probably playing WoW which it didn't have any trouble doing.

Well, i've now got my netbook loaded with legacy emu's and roms. Installed the driver to use my ps3 controller on it and now i've got an awesome portable game system :). Now i've got something to do while i wait at airports or on long flights. I wonder how much battery it will eat up just playing emus.

EDIT:

Scrapping the dualshock. Not only can I use my PSP which is slim and more portable, but I can get the PSP to run off it's own battery instead of sucking off the netbooks like a dualshock will. Now it's an even more awesome system :)
