Free photo editing programs?

I'm in need of photo editing software, but don't want to pay, and don't necessarily want to steal either. What are the best free alternatives? (preferably w/ links)

When I do mess with something, I use Gimp. Its a free one. http://www.gimp.org/
Its got too many bells and whistles for me to sit down and look at.

I have to agree, The Gimp is a beast. It's supposed to be linux's close to equivalent to photoshop. Or at least one of it's equivalents.

The best thing to do which is easy. Is download Photoshop CS3 trial from Adobes website and I could send you a keygen once you have that installed you have a full version of Photoshop CS3. Its the best but you said you didn't want to still but still PHcs3 is the best.

Photoshop is my best bet, and you get a 30 day trial too even if you dont want to crack it, but youl eventually sink in xD.
But hey something thats pretty useful is paint.net. (getpaint.net)
Its a really cool free photo editor. But I would go with photoshop because I believe it has more filters than the gimp and paint.net

Yea, pretty much photoshop is the most popular one out there. I use CS3, used to use CS1 a long time ago, then got CS3. That and paintshoppro is pretty popular.
There's another real cool program I downloaded the other day in Linux, it's really cool. I'll find the name of it eventually.

I wouldnt go Cs3, the serials are pretty messed up, Photoshop CS2 is easy to crack.
And it uses up less space, and less memory. I find it easier to get around with.
