President of Sony Comp.Entertainment France quotes PS3 Price

According to joystiq.com the president of Sony Computer Entertainment France announced the price for the PS3! According to him the console will cost between €499 and €599 ($613 -$736 USD!).

In a radio interview with Générations Europe 1 yesterday, George Fornay -- president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe -- let a little something slip: the PlayStation 3 will cost between €499 and €599. That's somewhere between $613 to $736 in American dollars! He was sure to point out that while this might sound like a lot of money for a game system, it was in fact cheap for a Blu-ray compatible playback system. Yay?

Since I can't seem to get the radio stream to work (and don't understand French if I could) Update: The radio stream has started cooperating, though the French thing is still in the way. If you speak Français, you can jump to the 8-minute mark for the scoop. The news comes to us (via Google's translation services) from Play France. Now, this could be a language barrier problem, but the untranslated page still reads "entre 499 euros et 599 euros donc."

Meh, thats now even bad. Thats how much the ps2 was when it was first released.

Actuallly when it was released in canada it was about 600 dollars.... It came with 3 games also, it was the only way they sold it to.

last I recall, I do not rember the Playstation two costin $700.00 So you can change that post right now dude...I am just stating my opnion and there is no changing it...Now that price is crazy..I mean the only reason it cost so much is because they out so much not needed power into the whole damn thing...So if you will to waste nearly a grand on this thing then by all means, be a silly person..I know Im not...And when the statistics come in fter first sales you will see to that the price is crazy..I mean a person would rather play something that is different..And Nintendo has done something different..
Now..you would you rather play with a a traditional controller of a innovated one...?

It doesn't really matter if the PS2 launched under the $700 or $300 price tag because that is old news. IF and when the PS3 launches and it carries a price tag of $400 or more, sure there will be people that pay that price but then again they have nothing else to spend their money on such as a wife, kids, bills, car payments, i.e.

Then again I don't know for sure because I can't afford something like that price range.
