Is Dark Alex the reason stopped big updates & focused on security ones?

I'd say so. I'm kinda mad that Dark_Alex made a 3.40 custom firmware. He did it ONLY to prove that he COULD do it.... when instead, he could have waited until Sony created a firmware with a big update on it and then EASILY be able to convert it to custom firmware, instead of worrying for Sony to possibly find a way to patch him out.

oh well, let him do what he wants. when the time comes, if he's still around, he might be generous enough to share his work

i would have to agree that he is the reason. He should take a break for a bit and let sony actually do some work

Yea ^^ same because the more sony does the little patches and he hacks them sony is finding more ways to beat him. so if he keeps doing this with all the same patches sony my find out how he does it and stop him.

if he really wanted to win he'd teach others how to create the custom FW

eh. we cant rely on just one guy to beat sony. dont get me wrong DAX is a hero to us. but i respect those guys cracking and making their own custom FW

Well, he's from the beginning days of the psp homebrew scene. Many people think he is only a code-stealer b/c he actually DID steal some code (on two occaisions I think) but he once claimed to have made a downgrader. There was another dev group named WAB that blamed Yoshihiro for stealing their code for the downgrader, and Yoshihiro challenged them to prove it. They couldn't prove that he stole their code. They had only been bluffing.

Long story short though, Yoshihiro was the person that created the first firmware 2.00 downgrader

Oh I was not in the psp scene when 2.00 was available. Although I did have a psp, I knew nothing about homebrew. I was around when 2.71 was not downgradable.

lol i remeber all that wab crap... i waited so long for the 2.0 dowgrader. i thought the 2.0 dowgrader was by MPH, or was Yoshihiro with that group

All hail, Yoshihiro. if it wasn't for him we would all probably be stuck on 2.0. or at least me. I remember when i first got my PSP the actual sales person upgraded it for me after i bought a game. and it was 2.0. That was before i even knew about the homebrew seen.
