What firmware on you on? Custom firmware has a built in Emulator for PS1 games.
Official firmware too, you can download the games from the PlayStation store on the PS3, but i'm sure you can get them elsewhere too.

Yeah, if you're on cfw you can make EBOOTs of your ps1 games using autopopstation.

Yea, you'll need the .EBOOT and .KEYS files if you download the games. You name a folder what the game is [EX: Grand Turismo = 'Grand Turismo'] And put the 2 previous files inside. The folder goes in your GAME3XX folder.

Don't upgrade to HX-2 if you want to do playstation games!
