gday mate, you only need to downgrade to play homebrew games...you can always play umd games lol and yes you are most likely going to need the pandora battery and a magic memory stick. These two things downgrade your psp to 1.50 kernal than you can upgrade it to 3.71 m33 or 3.8 m33 then you can upgrade to the latest cfw if you want(3.9m33). you can do all sorts of kool things wit cfw so its deffinately worth it

oh and also your going to need a second battery and a memory stick of at least 256mb - 1gb
