Red XMB with no icons after installing 3.71 M33

Ok... so, my friend was upgrading from 3.80 OFW to 3.90 OFW and while it was upgrading his battery somehow fell out... and he bricked his PSP (Phat)... So I hard-modded his bat and followed SolidSnake4xx's Secret Project tutorial for installation of firmware and making the magic memory stick and such... So I installed 3.71 M33 on his PSP and as instructions said pressed X to turn of th Psp after it was then... I then took the pandora's out of the PSP... hooked the PSP to a power cord and turned it on and was welcomed with a Red XMB with no icons or anything whatsoever (except for a random time and date on top)... The guide warned me that this would happen and said that you simply turn the thing off and turn it back on and the problem would go away... So I hold the power button for 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 seconds and then it finally turns off... I turn it back on again.. same thing (Red XMB no icons)... I turned it on and off like 5 times but to no avail... Then I figured out that my holding the power did absolutely nothing and the PSP simply turned off after roughly 10 seconds of staying on... I installed 3.71 M33 again... same thing... Then I insatlled 3.71 OFW and guess what... same thing, nothing changed...

Suggestions, anyone?

Try a different tutorial? What did you use to make the MS? (despertar, UPMS, other)
EDIT: are you able to access the recovery menu? (hold R when turning it on)
This is a sig. You may think that there is something to it, but in fact it is just an ordinary sig.

Thanks 8-bit Ninja for replying but I fixed the problem...

The guide I used wasn't really oriented toward unbricking a bricked PSP but more towards simply installing CFW... So it failed to mention the part where I had to access the recovery and format flash1...

But Thanks!
