Is there a better SNES emulator than snes9x?

Is there a better SNES emulator than snes9x? If not which version of snes9x is the best? I've tried out the 2 latest versions but many of the roms are very sluggish. eg. Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Country 3 (strangely enough Donkey Kong Country 2 works fine!).

Or maybe there's some sort of settings I can tweak within snes9x that would correct this?

All help is greatly appreciated!

?????????????????????????

I'd been using SNES9X for almost a year and a half via 2.60 eLoader and I never had a single speed problem. DKC was one of many games that had %100+ speed emulation. Other games were Super Metroid, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Spiderman Total Carnage, Super Mario World, and soooooooo many other games. And even then my clock speed was only 222MHz.

Many games on the SNES used a unique form of "layering" (the best I can describe it). Many games used that to make it appear to rain in the game or show mountains, trees, or fog etc. in the background of the picture. Many emulators have trouble with those features on lower-end systems. The PSP is powerful, no doubt, but it's still "weak" compared to computer systems and also when you compare the core of the emulator's design with the core of the real deal SNES system.

Increasing the clock speed to 333mhz will help many slower games dramatically, however, some games like Super Mario RPG (and various others) will slow down periodically or not even play at all. It may also help to set the frame skip to 2-4. A higher value will make the game more choppy, but emulate faster. To my knowledge, there is no better SNES emulator on the PSP than snes9x me 4.2 (or w/e the last version is called specifically).

You can bump down the sounds quality to help increase the quality. And like DPM said, use frameskip. When I use 2-3 on Super Mario Kart, I can BARELY notice a difference.

the settings that work best for most roms are:

graphics speed = 1.5
sound speed = 1.5
frame skip = 3
clock speed = 333MHz

I'd have more but my mom took my psp and she won't give it back T_T
