i would have thought that too, but there's no way there's a decent enough emulator that enables any ps2 game to run smoothly, i mean, the only reason we have a half decent psx emulator is because Sony made it. (i say half decent because even that emulator is very limited)

lol, can we just close this thread already, isn't it obvious with the trouble people went through to get PSX on the psp that ps2 would even be an option?
it doesn't even have a second analogue stick, there's no point even trying, as even if you could somehow emulate it, it would never have the same feel!
the specs are somewhere between psx and ps2, not beyond it. wait for this "third" generation psp to surface, it could well be the ps2 model, i mean, we are now a generation ahead with the home console, it's finally plausible. In a couple of years i mean :P

Yea, perhaps this next psp will have a slight ps2 emulator possibility, not enough to really play a game of coarse, but perhaps a slight show of improvement. But I think a DS emulator will become more operational in the next psp version :). Hopefully there will be a second analog stick in this new psp. If there is, I will definitely buy it.

Technically, you could.

You can play Playstation 1 games on the PSP right now because of Sony putting a built in emulator on the console. The same is for PS2 games. However, there hasn't been any PS2 games released yet for the PSP. In time there will be, however.

well crait, ps2 would require a totally different emulator and more buttons, the psp just doesn't have the functionality right now.
Besides, I agree with Advent, with the success of the Wii and then the PS3 getting a 6-axis upgrade, the next psp could well mimic the DS, allowing for the modding community to get creative ;)

It's not possible. End of story. The PSP doesn't have the graphics processing power. There are some titles that you'd imagine would be playable because they aren't exceptional titles graphically, however, they aren't playable because they are using graphic engines developed for a different platform. They would need to be ported and, legally, nobody but the companies that initially produced the games can do that. Furthermore, it's impossible to make an emulator to play PS2 images on the PSP because it doesn't have enough RAM.

Well, DPMan, emulators don't have to 100% simulate the original hardware.
PSP's, like my PPC, could be able to take out parts and downship graphics so that it runs smoothly on the system.
