Need help adding a cheat to gpSP..

Hey guys,

I am trying to add cheat to the EMU gpSP (GBA Emu). I am pretty much hoping to learn where I can actually get a GameShark code that works with the game Contra Advance from GBA. I read the instructions for gpSP and I am following the instructions to the letter, but what I can't seem to find is the Game Shark codes that work with this game.

Please help, I am having great difficulty with this. Thanks in advance.

I had a look at gamefaqs and they have Contra Advance: The Alien Wars or something and there are several codes there

here's a link: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/code/561581.html

if not then, I know it's a long shot, but you might be able to track down some old sites that used to deal with that stuff, maybe start at wikipedia or just good old fashioned google.

Thanks for the help, I did come across those codes several times during my search, those are not GameShark codes, they are simply codes you put when you enter the password to enter to the next levels--which it gives you 99 men to kill per level jump. I am hoping someone with some old-school knowledge when it comes to GameShark codes can come to my rescue.

Normally Gameshark codes for GBA should be like this (space in between):

AAAAAAAA BBBBBBBB

Here is a link on how to create the gpSP cht file--which I am doing correctly, but I wish the guy would say where he got the codes from. click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTQHMPkGUMI

This is what gpSP09 readme.txt says about the cheats:

-- Cheats --

Currently, gpSP supports some functionality of Gameshark/Pro Action Replay
cheat codes. To use these, you must first make a file with the same name
as the ROM you want the cheat code to apply to, but with the extension .cht.

To write a code, write the type of model it is, gameshark_v1, gameshark_v3,
PAR_v1, or PAR_v3. gameshark_v1/PAR_v1 and gameshark_v3/PAR_v3 respectively
are interchangeable, but v1 and v3 are not! So if you don't know which
version it is, try both to see if it'll work.

Then, after that, put a space and put the name you'd like to give the cheat.

On the next several lines, put each cheat code pair, which should look like
this:

AAAAAAAA BBBBBBBB

Then put a blank line when you're done with that code, and start a new code
immediately after it. Here's an example of what a cheat file should look
like:

gameshark_v3 MarioInfHP
995fa0d9 0c6720d2

gameshark_v3 MarioMaxHP
21d58888 c5d0e432

gameshark_v3 InfHlthBat
6f4feadb 0581b00e
79af5dc6 5ce0d2b1
dbbd5995 44b801c9
65f8924d 2fbcd3c4

gameshark_v3 StopTimer
2b399ca4 ec81f071

After you have written the .cht file, you have to enable the cheats
individually in the game menu. Go to the Cheats/Misc menu, and you will
see the cheats; turn them on here. You may turn them on and off as you
please, but note that some cheats may still hold after you turn them off,
due to the nature of the system. Restart to completely get rid of them.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This is still very work in progress! I basically added this in only 1.5
or so hours, and I don't have a lot of time right now to work on it
before releasing. So I'll probably improve it later.

Not all of gameshark's features are supported, especially for v3. Only
basic cheats will work, more or less.

Cheats may be unstable and may crash your game. If you're having problems
turn the cheats off.

Really, there's no guarantee that ANY cheats will work; I tried a few and
some seem to work, others are questionable. Try for yourself, but don't
expect anything to actually work right now. Do expect this feature to
improve in future versions.

Ha! Someone PM'd me at another site, he believes those codes are found here: click here

I'll report back if it works and also a tute on how it was typed and entered for it to work. brb

UPDATE

It works!!! Damn!! Glad.. now I can make some major killing with this game!!

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Enter the following code (listed below)
  3. You can only make a code file with only 9 codes (if you enter more than this, you will always crash the game when you try to load it in the EMU) (also each PAR_V3 line counts on one code) For example: the code I supply below is only 6 codes long (doesn't matter how many alphanumeric codes are for each code line).
  4. Then be sure to save your file with the extension .CHT the name of the file should be exactly the same as the game for example if the game is called Contra Advance (!) then you must name the cheat file as Contra Advance (!).CHT (be sure you have set your computer folder options to see the extension in order to make sure you have named the file as a *.CHT file instead of *.CHT.TXT--or else it won't work)
  5. Below is the code I am only using (Keep in mind that I don't enable all the guns, just the one I want, when I want.

  Code:
PAR_V3 (M)
03efedd6 8820ff1c
fdf8ee47 6f867b0f

PAR_V3 Infinite Lives
f5caa9af 140da9dc

PAR_V3 Spread Weapon
58274afb ede2f5dd

PAR_V3 Blue Missiles
60abbf05 6e39db54

PAR_V3 Red Missiles
cf4b4c5b 57f3c652

PAR_V3 Tank Fireballs
587abf9a 68d89b26

Have Fun!!

You don't need master codes with an emulator.

How do you set up cheats to select them in the menu in gpsp?
I made the txt file, I might figure it out here soon but not sure.
I just stuck the cheat file in the same directory as the game.

EDIT: I got this. Sweetness.

adventwolf, what did you have to do to "get" it? Maybe I should include that tip in my tutorial above, so it's complete.

Oh, I see, since I was following someone else's tutorial on youtube (link above), I didn't know why I should not follow the guy's instruction.

Could you tell me or expand on your knowledge about this, so I can understand it better? Thanks in advance.

Darn its not working, I thought I had it earlier, I know I made the .CHT file right but when I would activate them my game would glitch a little depending on the code. I'll try to get the contra game working later.

With an emulator(any emulator) you don't need a master code because the cheat device is already in.

Think of it like a GBA with a built in Gameshark as opposed to a GBA with an external Gameshark.

Get it?

Could you provide the CHT code you made for the game? So I can inspect it here? Be sure to use the [code] brackets when posting the info. Thanks.
