I am really new when it comes to PSP. I was planning on buying one this weekend but i wanted to know some things beforehand.

I am not totally new to the homebrew-emulation idea and that is one of the major selling points for me with a PSP. If i went to the store tomorrow and bought a PSP what should i be looking for if i want to use emulators and run homebrew on my PSP? Are some easier to convert to homebrew than others? (ie Slim/Fat)

Is there any disadvantages or CONS to having a homebrew running PSP?

Say i had a PSP UMD ISO sitting on my computer. Would i need CFW in order to run it? Or can i just slap it on a memstick? Could i play movie files on my PSP from off of the memstick or does that require CFW also? How about music?

I been looking around and noticed the Pandoras Battery thing. Would i need that in a new PSP? Could i buy a set already made off of a credible website?

Sorry for the repetition in my questions. I only came here because this seems like the best forum/site for this kind of thing. What i am basically seeking is someones approval that buying a PSP and converting it to CFW is worth it.

basically it doesn't matter what PSP you get, if it's a fat PSP then you would use Pandora's Battery to get to a custom firmware and then use ISO's. I fit was a slim PSP you would use Despertar Cementario to get a CFW and then run homebrew and ISO's

There are realy no disadvantages of owning a homebrewing PSP

So to make this as simple of a process as possible. If i bought a slim psp and then bought something like this. This

Would it work as most do? So i could play emulators and homebrew on my PSP? Given that the quality of the product is on par.

Do you have to keep the battery and mem card in the whole time you wish to play your psp?

Would i be able to upgrade to a bigger card? Whats the max size that will work?

Does the battery stick out of a slim PSP and look lame? And does the battery still work as normal.. such as charging etc?

Does it still keep the original desktop background and menu thing or is it some kind of Command Prompt?

Damn thats a ton of questions. I wish i knew this kind of sh*t. :(

That tool doesn't quite say that it works on slim PSPs, so I'd avoid buying it out of fear of a bad investment. I recommend you read my FAQ in the bottom of my Pandora's Battery tutorial here on PSPBrew in order to get a link for the despertar cementerio tool. Basically, it is the same thing you found there. It's a Pandora's Battery only it's custom-made for slim PSP's. What you link to won't work for a slim I don't think, and you can use the memory stick the PSP comes with for the magic memory stick. You don't need to spend money for the memory card too. Now I'll number off from here on out.

1. It would work just as all the rest regarding homebrew after you use the despertar cementerio tool for the slim (or made one yourself). If you're capable of using the tool, and it works, you're good to go. Homebrew will work if you install it correctly from that point on (although you may want to make a few changes to the custom firmware's recovery mode, but we aren't there yet).

2. You only use the tool and magic memory stick one time, and then you can format the 512mb memory stick in the PSP or Windows (or both) and you can use that for extra storage ;). Also, I don't think you'll be able to turn the battery back into a normal battery if you use one of those tools, but if you can, in my tutorial for Pandora's Battery, it pretty much tells you how to make the battery normal again. Anywho, long story short, the tool won't power the PSP on... I know that sounds goofy, but it won't power it on for normal play. You'd just use the battery that the PSP comes with after you use the tool.

3. The PSP may come with a 1gb memory stick in the bundle. 1gb is a fairly sufficient amount of space, but if you want to load up the PSP with as much as you possibly can, you can purchase an 8gb memory stick pro duo. That's the largest capacity that the PSP will recognize right now (and also that is made in general). They go for about $90 or something on newegg.com I think.

4. That tool you linked to probably would stick out and "look lame", yes, but you don't keep that in the PSP. You take it out after using it for 5 or so minutes and use your normal battery that the PSP comes with. It sticks out b/c it's the size of a "fat" PSP battery as opposed to the new slim ones.

5. The original PSP menu is also left fully intact! In fact, you can even add custom themes and make your PSP a one-of-a-kind unit. The only thing that looks really "basic" and "command prompt-like" is the recovery mode in which you'll barely use in the first place.

6. Yes, it's a ton of questions, but stick around, and you'll learn this kind of sh*t ;) lol

7. Welcome to the forum!

*EDIT* ~ I added the link to my tutorial and a despertar cementerio tutorial in my signature just for you. You can use those as reference so that you learn how this process is done the long way, or simply just for sh*t and giggles.

Wow. Thanks for the awesome reply.

I went over the tutorials and it seems i would need a second PSP or second battery for them. I dont know the prices on a legit PSP battery but if they arent incredibly cheaper than something on eBay then i dont see why i shouldnt go in that direction.

I found This... think its something that would work? The price seems right for me and requires about no work(so the guy says).

It seems like cheating if i buy something i didnt work on. But i dont want to run the risk of blowing something up or breaking something that would end up needing to be replaced.

If anyone knows of a credible site that offers these packs or if anyone on here sells them at a decent price hook me up. Or if anyone lives in WA state and could do it with their own supplies i would be willing to compensate.

I know its terribly tacky and probably forbidden on this forum but i must DOUBLE POST!!!

I am 1 word away from getting a PSP and making it CFW acceptable. Its kind of important.

I found This... think its something that would work? The exact item in question has ended but several of the same get posted daily.

I know its probably something thats impossible to tell without having the product in hand. but aside from that fact if it worked as discribed its all i need to homebrew my PSP slim? It could be used on different PSP slims as well?

This is less of a question about that product above and more of a question about the pandora's battery in general.

Next time ask one of the staff before you double post. It might be urgent, but it is still against the rules.

Yes, that should work. If the seller is telling the truth in fact that, that really is a pandora's batt, with a maic memory stick that has DC4(despertar cementario v4) on it then yes it will work with any slims or phats and will keep on working until you format the memory stick. If you formatted the mem stic then you would need to put the files back on it, but if you kept them in their original contents, and the author is telling the truth that he has made it into a pandora's batt then it'll work.

In short: And that's all you need to enable homebrew on your psp slim, and yes it can be used on different psps as long as you don't phunk with it(i.e. format memory stic) considering that the author did what he said he did to the batt.

Wow I need to start making pandora's batt's, make me some $$
