Tryin to dust off my psp and ugprade to 3.90M33, didnt work!

I decided to dust off my psp, and upgrade to the newest cfw out, or at least close to it. My plan was to upgrade my 3.52M33-4 to 3.90M33 and then use the network update option to just update all the way. I had the eboot and 390 eboot in the UPDATE folder, and blah blah blah. Selected the update, and the screen just froze at the screen after it said unpacked or something along those lines. I do know it was only 2 lines of text. So I remember reading somewhere to hold L+ triangle to do something, so I did and nothing happened for a little while. Turned off my psp and turned it back on, and it was bricked. Anyone have any idea why it did this? I mean unless it did, I didn't think it even started installing anything yet lol. O well I'll use that 1.50 installer thing to recover back to 1.50 and upgrade to it. I have fallen to behind in this stuff

bricked meaning it won't turn on? Or does it say your PSP crashed? There is a difference between the two.

put 3.90 in the root of ur memory stick. Things have changed now Ace. I thought ud read the readme

Or at least thats what im pretty sure u have to do. I just recover back to 3.90 M33-3 with DC5

Well bricked as in power LED turns on but it goes to the black screen. I should've said semi-bricked.
Nah I read the readme, it said exactly this:

- Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the 3.90 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name "390.PBP".
Alternatively, you can let the installer to download for you via wifi.
- Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.

I figured out I just put my flash0 backup over my current flash0 and it rose back from the dead. Then I decided to start out the installer while holding L and triangle, still didn't work. Semi-bricked again. But I did copy down the screen it got stuck at..

I'll try stickin the 390 eboot on the root of my mem stic though if thats what you kids do nowadays, or let it install it via wifi.
Actually I don't have a pandoras bat, never used one :p I'm to old school to use one. That and I just never got around to making one.

Edit: O wait, after the second time that I turned off my psp (only try 2 times so far) this time it didn't semi-brick. Ugh, this is what happens when i forget how to install cfw...

How did you install your 3.90M33 Jay-Jay?

And just to let you guys know I deleted the 390.PBP eboot, started up the installer, said that 3.80pbp doesn't exist so I hit X for yes to download it from the internet, and now its stuck at the Please wait... screen again. What is up with this thing? They don't make cfw like they used to.

At first I had CFW 3.52 M33-4.

Please read my notes on all my posts in that thread--I explain what I had to do to run the Recovery Menu and reset the settings and then enabled and disabled some features in order to get it to work good.

And then after I had 3.90, I just updated to the latest version by downloading the M33 update from Dark-Alex's website and downloaded the 3.90 fw update from psp-hacks download section.

Finally thanks. Turn to find out I accidentally had the homebrew folder set to 1.50 instead of 3.52. Appreciate the help guys. It's updating now, hopefully nothing will go wrong XD.

Cool! Yes, it's one of those functions you must be sure to change in your Recovery Menu or else it doesn't work. I gather you must have read that from the tutorial link I provided above. Here is a quote:

* If you are installing either the 3.90 M33 CFW or any of the UPDATE files in a Fat PSP, ensure you have configured in the Recovery Menu of the PSP the GAME folder to run in the 3.XX kernel mode, or otherwise the installer will refuse to run.

Yep, exact part I read. Everything was already the same lol. But yea it works, head a little trouble with the 1.50 addon but I figured that out too no where in the readme did it say the 150 eboot had to be on the root of the mem stic...

No problem! I do trust you installed the Kernal 1.50 add-on V2 for 3.90 by now? If you did, you are all set.

Also if you do run into some bugs, be sure to do this:

1. To enter Recovery mode, turn your psp totally off (not sleep mode), Hold R trigger and turn on at the same time, this is your Recovery Menu.
   
   • Now sometimes, doing upgrades it causes bugs, to fix, I recommend everyone who does an upgrade to "delete flash1 and reset settings" from recovery.
   • Go to Advanced and select "delete flash1 and reset settings"
2. Also in Recovery is Configuration folder, make changes so it looks like this:
   
   • skip Sony logo - enabled
   • hide corrupt icons - enabled
   • game folder homebrew - 1.50 Kernal for homebrew (fat only and u need to install the 1.5 kernal addon patch for each different CF)
   • autorun program at - disabled (this is used to recover back to 1.5 or run a eboot if u mess up ur psp)
   • umd mode - sony np9660 (u dont need a umd in anymore, and it plays any iso/cso)
   • Use VshMenu - enabled
   • I have left the rest on default

A tiny bug, I have encountered, when you exit the Recovery Menu, the Sony Logo still shows up when booting up the PSP even though you have set it to skip the Sony Logo, but when you turn off the PSP and turn it back on without going to the Recovery Menu, it doesn't show anymore. It's weird.

So what's your take on 3.90 M33-3? I personally like how simple it is to switch XMB themes. Just download a theme called PTF to your Themes folder (if you are using your PSP to download these files, it will automatically save them to that directory. Then you go to your Settings and switch the Custom themes. This was something that wasn't so simple with 3.52 M33-4

I like it so far. Fixed my analog stick somehow (it wouldn't go left or up but very slowly). I like the ease of switchin themes and installing them, but they are also limited too. Like how 3.52M33 could have the buttons in different areas, and stuff. But I really like it so far. I noticed some extra features and stuff. And the radio is awesome. It's really come a long ways :p I still like the old OE firmwares though, they were great.

How was 3.52? I have heard it's more stable, but getting my flash1 corrupted whenever I install it through pandora tells me otherwise. Could just be bad luck, 3.90 is great for me. I just found an app that edits CTF files, so I can make my own themes without flashing. CXMB is a lot more functional on 3.90.
