You need to do this because in order to run hyomebrew, you need custom firmware (cfw)
Get an extra battery, because the easiest way to get the JigKick battery needed is to pop open your battery and cut a pin on it (google for pics on wat to cut + include wat kind of batt u have in the search, fat or slim)
Then once you do that, test it by putting it in your psp and turning it on. If the power light comes on and nothing happens (screen stays black) it worked.
Next, download the Totalnewbie installer (v6 is latest I believe) from the downloads section at http://dl.qj.net/TOTALNewbi-easyInstall ... ies-(on-PC)/pg/12/fid/14749/catid/193
Follow the instructions on that site to get your magic mem stic (u will have to install) when installing ur magic mem stic MAKE SURE YOU SELECT TO MAKE THE UNIVERSAL UNBRICKER!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!
once the magic mem stic is made, put both the jig kick batt in ur psp and ur mem stick to use Pandora's battery to unbrick your psp. When they're both in, the screen will stay black and your mem stic lite will flash, along with the wifi one some. when both have flashed, hit the X button to install cfw 3.71m33 the psp will turn off when it is done. You mite want to google a mem stic guide to, I just covered the basics. It's easier than it sounds, trust me. ( I just put cfw on 2 days ago)
