You have to run the Magic Mem Stick Program, that makes magic mem sticks.

i would advise to use the Manual Installation Walkthrough, and you can just skip the parts where you make the battery. Its not that hard, i've actually done it twice b/c i accidentally messed up my Magic memory stick :?

...have you tried holding the L trigger as you place your battery in?

Sometimes on slims you'll need to flip your power switch into the hold position then hold the L trigger while putting in the battery until it shuts off. Then flip the switch back to normal and hold the L trigger while placing your battery in and it should work unless of course your mem stick or battery is faulty.
