Amber light always on.

I have a PSP Phat 1003 that is running 5.00M-33 v3. The amber light stays on when the PSP has been switched off.
I keep the switch up for at least 10secs top make sure the PSP is fully off. But still the light stays on.
It runs perfectly other than the amber light staying on.
Unfortunately |Ido not know the history of the PSP.
Does anyone know what is going on here?

Hi. Thanks for the rapid response but no the charger is not plugged in.
I have also replaced the battery in case it was once a Pandora, not that it should affect the amber light, but still the light stays on!
I have also checked the board with the on off switch but that looks to be O.K. I might swap it later just to eliminate something else.
I have never seen this before on a PSP that boots up and plays O.K. Normally the amber light would indicate that all is not well i.e. bricked or something.
I think I will re-flash it to rule out a corrupt OS.
I am still scratching my head.

Does the psp still "think" that it's charging? And by that I mean when you go to settings and look at the battery what does it say? (I would be more specific but I don't have my psp on me atm)

Did you buy it used? If the light array broke, the previous user could've replaced it with one that only goes orange. Although that wouldn't explain it being on after you turn the PSP off. That makes it sound more like an actual technical problem.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I haven't responded sooner but I have a pile of work to get done this week.
I have tried leaving the battery out. Changed batteries and reflashed a couple of times with different flavours of CW. Still no joy. I did notice that when the pandora was in and then the PSP switched off, there was no amber light! Not really looked too deeply into that of yet. I will swap out the right hand pad board to see if that helps.
I do not know if I am just getting used to it or the light has got dimmer!
I could live with it as is but I am curious as to why it is happening.

well, if your adventurous, crack it open and check the ribbon wires to make sure they be plugged in right. i had that on my phat, was about to do a topic here, then looked t the wire. it was angled. i plugged it in and bam! no more. other ideas would say board failure somewhere, but u dont have 4 other PSP's to pull parts off of. well check that and if you can, test your stuff on a friends.

Does it really bug you that much?

I mean the psp does work right?...it either thinks its in sleep mode or that its being charged. Does the orange light come on after you pop your battery and pop it back in (without turning your system on and off) if it doesnt then it thinks its in sleep mode...if it does, then its obvious that your psp thinks its being charged in which case someone may have done the usb charge mod and messed something up or it may just be one of the prongs for the ac adapter port.

I don't think it bothers him that much, he was just trying to find out what the problem was.
