Can I backup my firmware?

Hi all,
I'm new to this, so forgive me for being a noob.
Last week I bought a PSP and updated it to 3.11 not knowing I couldn't downgrade it. I went back yesterday to Bestbuy and made up an excuse(I said it kept freezing) and they replaced it with a new one(2.71 TA-082). I'm pretty comfortable messing with this PSP. Is there a way to dump my current firmware to file before doing anything? Thanks for the help.

lol. that was smart. instead of waiting for a downgrader u want and got a new psp.

to downgrade, use this tutorial

follow the steps carefully and u'll have a downgraded psp. wen ur done downgrading, post it so we can help u get a custom firmware.

good luck :)

Thanks.
Not to recover if failed(can't recover from bricked). but just to have it. For instance, if I ever wanted to go back to 2.71 after sucessfully downgrading it.

If you ever wanted to upgrade back to 2.71 after downgrading it, you could obtain the 2.71 update (the official one that Sony released) and use that to update. Once you are on custom firmware though, you won't ever consider 2.71.
