the only odd sound problem I've had is with Figz. His sound will only work when the headphones are plugged in. I know Martelle though, from school, and he said that the sound issue is that it won't turn up OR turn down... odd for sure. I then thought that maybe the flash0 was messed with somewhere but I just didn't know. I've heard of psps that are TA-082 - TA-086 (motherboards) that will lose screen brightness if they came stock with 2.71 or higher and were downgraded... but not sound issues.
I have to guess that it was just dropped.

scroll the psp down to sound settings and make sure the AVLS is "off" then try turning the psp
volume up.
other than that, you can try recharging it.

well with the AVLS, you would still be able to turn the volume down... and I was told that it wouldn't move up OR down.

Try to open up your psp and take a look at all of the wires. Maybe it is loose?
