Buying a psp

Hi just wondered if you could help a noob
I'm looking at buying a psp for my son at xmas, i'm looking at buying one already to go with the firmware pre installed
But not too sure what i'm after i have seen this one and want to ask if this has the right firmware to play iso`s straight from the memory card.
the seller quotes
"We have upgraded this BRAND NEW BLACK PSP Console to 3.52 M33-2 version FIRMWARE (better than 1.5version) "

Is this the one thats right for me?
any advice would be great
Many thanks

Well pretty much it doesn't matter which new one you buy. They will all have a firmware that can't play iso's. YOu have to buy one, then downgrade it, then you can upgrade it to a custom firmware. Once you have a custom firmware you can then play iso's off your memory stick. I know it sounds complicated but it's quite simple.

Buying a "phat" psp-
You probably want to get a used one/ one off ebay that you are certain of it's firmware. Because in order to use the game "lumines" to downgrade it, you must have one with the firmware 3.50 or lower. But if you bought a brand new it could quite possibly have firmware 3.51 or 3.52. In that case you could still downgrade it, but you would need another psp that has custom firmware on it. Once you downgrade it to 1.50 (don't worry, all the downgraders downgrade it to 1.50) then you can easily put some files on the memory stick and upgrade to a custom firmware (3.52M33-4 is an example).

buying one of the new "slim" psp-
Well these come with firmware 3.60 on it (Completely different from phat psp's) on the only way to get it to a custom firmware would be using the method where you need another psp with custom firmware on it. So yea.

If you want the easy way out to be able to play iso's off the memory stick go with one of the older psp's that have 3.50 firmware on it or lower. You can check out this guide for more information:

If you need anymore help just ask.

where you planning on buying it on ebay? cuz there are psps for sale there that already have custom firmware on them so you wouldn't have to mess with all this stuff. any of the custom firmwares can play isos im sure. you should probably get 3.52 M33 or 3.40 OE-A, but 3.40 OE-A is a lttle old, and new games are coming out that require a higher firmware to play.

Link is dead.

And no you don't need a loader or anything. The link I gave you tells you the whole process.
All you have to do is get the iso, and copy and paste it in the ISO folder on the root of the memory stick.
