Homebrew issues

I'm currently running a 3.10 OE-A with a 1.5 kernel.

I try using SNES9X TYL and none of the games work. They all give me a solid grey screen and just sit there. Nearly every single one (TMNT4, Chono Trigger, Earthbound, etcetcetcetcetc).

NesterJ is the exact same way. Only a handful of games actually work (Ducktales, Ducktales 2, Castlevania, Mario 1), the rest give me an unresponsive grey screen (Castlevania 2, Castlevania 3, Mario 2, Mario 3, the list goes on)

What the hell? Am I the only one that's ever had a problem? What am I doing wrong? I just bought the PSP today so it's possible that I just forgot or didn't do something, but some of my friends are able to run pretty much any rom they throw at their PSP.. but with mine, I just get a solid grey screen. What gives!?!?

Maybe try switching to your other kernel setting and put everything in GAME150.
Maybe you just need to try different sources for the game you have.

Can you type out your process, and where you have everything placed, and which files you placed them in so i may get a better conclusion of what you have done.

What's weird is that I don't have a "GAME150" folder. It never made one when I updated. It makes no sense that the games don't work, some of the roms I use work fine on PC, and I ported them to a slot 1 DS device (R4) and they worked fine as well. I made a GAME150 folder under PSP>Game, though.

Under PSP > Game, I have "Nester J", "Nester J%", "snes9xTYL", "snes9xTYL%", and the "UPDATE" folder. Aside from that, everything else is default.

My NES roms are in PSP>Game>NesterJ. My SNES ones are in PSP>Game>snes9xTYL>roms. All show up in the menus.. very, very few work.

I think when you use the 1.50 kernal you have to use the folder made specifically for 1.50...
Image
See how there is 3 diff folders... one with 1.0 beside 2 with 1.5 beside

the 1.5 are the ones i use in my GAME150 folder, while i believe the 1.0 goes in the Game folder while on 1.50 kernel.

I could be mistaken though cause i havent had the need to use 1.50 kernel settings. But try changing your kernel settings to the other and place your files in the GAME150. You'll have to create the Game150 folder manually because it doesnt create it for you when you flash the firmware.

x:\PSP\GAME150\your 2 emulator folders

*EDIT* let me know how it turns out after you've tried changing the kernel and placing everything in game150

Under the 1.50 kernel, homebrew from both 1.00 and 1.50 folders should work appropriately, but if it doesn't, always try to revert back to what staxx recommends.

Well the thing is, i'm not having a problem getting the emulator running. I did try what you suggested, and the results were the same as if I left them in PSP\Game. The issue is with the roms. Bad checksum on the SNES ones, grey screens on the NES ones with only a few working. I don't think it's possible that they're all bad dumps, because as I said before, they worked on DS and on the PC.

I tried booting both SNES9XTYL 0.4 and NesterJ while in the PSP/Game150 folder and the results were the same. Bad Checksum/corrupt on the SNES roms, grey screens on the majority of the NES ones.

..maybe I did just have a bad batch of roms. I tried redownloading and left them in the zip file and they worked.. odd.

Thanks for the help, Stax and DarkPacMan. I didn't know I had to manually make the GAME150 folder. :D

You're more than welcome for the help, but just a side-note, you don't have to manually make the game150 folder necessarily. If you would have reformatted the memory stick then it would have added it by itself, but it's no big deal now ;)
