PSP News

It's finally here! Dark Alex and the rest of Team M33 have been popping in and out lately with their messages about creating a new custom firmware. While their previous release had CFW 3.90, the release of the official 4.01 FW prompted them to follow suit with one of their very own.

In comes CFW 4.01 M33 with the following changes:

  • Bug fix: vshmenu didn't let change camera mode due to camera_plugin using select button. Fixed, now vsh menu will not be loaded when using the camera.
  • Recovery can now be translated, See how below. Translation to spanish is autoincluded.
  • Updated the M33 SDK with a new function and sample, and released the psp-packer tool to compress prx's and PBP's in the ~PSP format.
  • The folder of 4.01 and higher homebrew will be GAME4.XX so it won't need change on update.

Make sure you take a look at the readme for installation procedures and other notes form Dark AleX and Team M33. The team also notes that the 1.50 kernel add-on will be released in a few hours, so make sure you check back on that. In the mean time, update your CFW!

The newest update to the 3.95 GEN CFW has been realeased.  There's a notable list of changes:

~Fixed issue which crashed the PSP if you had vshmenu mode 'None'.

~Fixed SNES emu issues

~Fixed some unremarkarble homebrew issues with the Slim.

~Issues with running the latest version of the SNES emulator, PSPTube and many other homebrew using ME are fixed

Download—>  Cool

The devs released installation instructions, to make things run smoother but I made a less confusing one… not really, I just kinda paraphrased:

1. Make sure your PSP is already plugged in and in USB mode

2. Click "download"

3. Choose the "open" option when the box pops up

4. Choose the option "extract all files" when it opens up

5. Go to the PSP itself and run the update

6. SMILE

The same team that brought us the 3.95 GEN has decrypted 4.00 OFW.  They took a peak at the resource directory in 4.00’s flash0 and found some PRX changes.  The team found that these changed PRXs are pops, popsman, npdrm, np9660, mlnbridge, sysmem, umdcache, sysconf, and video.  They also saw that the NIDS have not changed.

They conclude that it should be no problem to develop homebrew on the new firmware so we will be keeping our eyes peeled for 4.00 ??? CFW.

Sony has released their newest firmware addition.  The changes aren’t major but are fine nonetheless:

~The “internet search” option has been added under the network menu.

~The option of changing the viewing speed of videos has been added.

Download: HERE

NOTE: If you update to this Sony firmware, you will not be able to run any homebrew games or downgrade without Pandora.

Have you ever wanted to play Smart Cycle on the go? Well, now you can thanks to crait who made this awesome emulator!!

The controls are simple when the emulator is running a rom…
= The D-Pad controls the Analog Stick
= The Nub controls the direction of the Handle Bars
= Square is the Right Handle Bar Button
= Circle is the Left Handle Bar Button
= R speeds up the peddleing
**(To use the other three keys, hold L and press Square, Cross, or Circle)
Other controls include…
= Select is emulator menu
= Start is pause or freeze (even if the game does not include pausing)
These are the controls for ROM selection…
= Arrows control the selection
= Cross selects that ROM and runs it
= Start Exits

Downloading and installation is simple!
Place the EBOOT.PBP, ENGINE0.NE, and all ROMS under MS0:/PSP/GAME/SMARCYCLEM/ then go to the XMB and select the game!
Smarcyclem V. 0.23 is fullspeed and runs all valid SC ROMS. There are still some bugs and two of the games do not have working audio at this time. This emulator is also compatable with Slim and Original PSP systems.

Directly from the description…here comes the New UPMS v4. Here is wat they have to say about it….

Homebrew developers The U.P.M.S. Team has released a new build for the UPMSInstaller, bumping it up to version 4. The application gives Sony PlayStation Portable owners a clean memory stick for a fresh install.

This is especially helpful when you want to upgrade after having a working Pandora or UPMS stick. In this way, you will no longer need to write the IPL on the stick again or install fatms371.prx.

The following changes to the installer itself and the ultimate loader in version 4 of the program were provided by The U.P.M.S. Team:

Installer

* You will need the following EBOOTS to the root of your Memory Stick before proceeding:
o 150.PBP
o 371.PBP
o 380.PBP
o 390.PBP
o UPDATE.PBP (Only if you want to downgrade to 1.50 Firmware)
o 340.PBP (Only if you want to Install Time Machine)
o 360.PSAR (Only if you want to Install Time Machine)
* New Improved Splashes
* New Improved visual install proceedure
* New Motherboard detection using Pommel, Tachyon & Baryon values. (Now displays your PSP model ie. TA-079.)
* New Displays the available free space on your memory stick which updates as the install proceeds.
* Renamed the Clean Nand items in Utilities menu, to stop confusion of people thinking it's installing the clean nands to the actual psp without creating a nand backup.
* Added 390 Kernel 150 Addon
* Removed writing of the full eeprom to the battery
* New Dark AleX's Time Machine IPL can now be installed from the IPL menu, this also installs the config file which contains the LTrigger for booting to UPMS. Now no need to convert Pandora's IPL or install the IPL, just launch Time Machine from the Utilities Menu then select the firmware you want to install.
* Disabled the battery menu for the latest PSP Slims V2.
* New Random Serial Generator for when you want to make your Pandora Battery normal, creates a randomly generated hex number.
* Now installs Despertar Cementerio V5 (TheJoker has had to be removed)

Ultimate Loader

* Firmware installation:
o 352M33 via Hellcats Menu
o DCv3
o DCv4
o DCv5
* New PSP Motherboard detection
* New Reboot to XMB option added. (TA-082 has troubles with display after reboot)
* Added Free Memory Stick Space for visual confirmation.
* Added Nand Backup direct from Ultimate Loader. (For Fat & Slim PSP's)
* Added IDStorage Key Backup direct from Ultimate Loader. (For Fat & Slim PSP's)
* Removed NandManager as NandTool by Cory is UPMS-Projects preferred backup/restore tool.

UPMSInstaller v4 comes with several documentation in .PDF format which should be read first before doing anything to avoid any problems.
