PSP News

The coder known as Fanjita, recently affiliated with team Noobz, has decided to step down from the PSP homebrew scene.

As read here , Fanjita is leaving for a few reasons. The main reason, as one would assume, is that a bond of trust between Fanjita and his partners was broken before the release of Pandora's Battery. No word is out as to who is responsible for the "betrayal of trust" that Fanjita describes in his "rant". Furthermore, he is leaving for more personal reasons. If you've been following his more personal life, you should know that he is entering into the realm of fatherhood and not only that, but he has a couple projects that he'd like to finish up and then be through with the PSP scene. Apparently, Fanjita is finishing up those last projects and then is leaving the homebrew scene for good.

We at PSPBrew would like to thank and also congratulate Fanjita on his various projects which enhanced the homebrew experience for thousands of PSP users worldwide. Fanjita is most well-known for his hand in the creation of the e-loader which enabled homebrew for those 2.xx users who hadn't previously had it, as well as his genius in the aid of the Pandora's Battery project. Farewell Fanjita, you will be missed.

This is a monumental day for the homebrew community as Team Noobz and Team C&D have released a program entitled "Pandora's Battery" which allows you to unbrick a psp. What this program does is turn your normal PSP battery into a "Jigkick Battery" and a regular 256mb memory stick pro duo into a "Magic Stick". These are the tools Sony themselves use to unbrick PSP's. Before you start though, you'll probably want to use a spare battery and a 256mb memory stick pro duo for this because you wont be able to use them for normal gameplay after the conversion has been completed. Here's some of the notes and restrictions packaged in the readme…

NOTES AND RESTRICTIONS

- The firmware in the Memory Stick is not a full 1.50, but a minimal
subset. Therefore, not all applications (such as flashers, or
  recovery apps) will load.

- Only Memory Stick Pro Duo are compatible. Memory Stick Duo
(e.g. 32MB sticks) are not supported.

- The IDStorage cannot be totally restored, as there is no known way
  to regenerate it properly.

- It is strongly RECOMMENDED to make a flash dump of the PSP before
  any downgrading operation.

- There might be a BSOD at the end of the downgrade. This is normal,
and happens on the standard downgraders.

- All hardware revisions known at this day are supported.

- This release contains no Sony-copyrighted material.  All required
Sony data is generated from the v1.50 update files.

Many thanks to…

- All work done by the Prometheus team aka Team C+D:

  Adrahil (VoidPointer)
  Booster
  Cswindle (Caretaker)
  Dark_AleX (Malyot)
  Ditlew
  Fanjita (FullerMonty)
  Joek2100 (CosmicOverSoul)
  Jim
  Mathieulh (WiseFellow)
  Nem (h1ckeyph0rce)
  Psp250
  Skylark
  TyRaNiD (bockscar)

- With thanks to everyone who has contributed to the PSPSDK, without which
  nothing would have been possible.

For further information and instructions on how to use this program refer to the readme file included in the download.

Team Wildcard does great service for the homebrew community with their release of 3.40 LE. This firmware was compiled by completely reverse engineering Dark Alex's 3.10 OE firmware. They then proceeded by updating all the tweaks for 3.40 and adding their own patches. Heres the features list…

  • Everything you know and love from 3.40 OE-A
  • Sexy new SCEP-style recovery menu
  • In-XMB configuration menu
  • Auto-detection of the kernel needed for homebrew – no need for GAME150 and GAME340; just put it all in GAME

————————–
Team Wildc*rd's Shout-outs
————————–

  • Thanks to Mathieulh and Dark_AleX before all others! They inspired us with their awesome releases. Without them this wouldn't have happened.
  • Greetz to poison for making SCEP open-source
  • Greetz to eXonet and Malloc.us
  • Greetz to Noobz. You continue to be most excellent.
  • Greetz to Skylark, adrahil, and our benevolent testers.
  • Greetz to maxconsole, qj, and any other website that supports us!

As always, make sure to follow the instructions that come with this package and take notice to its warnings as neither I or any members of pspbrew.com will take responsibility for your misfortunes.

The long wait is over! AhMan almighty and StoneCut have given us a new update to the very popular homebrew application IRShell. This version of IRShell is usable at full functionality on all custom firmwares released to date. Take a look at the v3.6 changelog…

- Added support for Team M33's newest custom firmware (See note 1). If you don't want to update to M33, you will still be able to use this new release with older OE firmwares.
- Launch and multi-task with PS1 games from within iR Shell (works also via USBhostFS and NetHostFS) (see note 2).
- Backup ISO plugins now integrated into iR Shell 1.5 EBOOT and 3.5x EBOOT (also supports USBhostFS and NetHostFS).
- Backup UMD Video ISO support (also supports USBhostFS and NetHostFS).
- Direct switching between 1.5 EBOOT and 3.5x EBOOT via new shortcut combo.
- System-wide "Quick Exit" function to quickly shutdown games, homebrew etc and return to iR Shell.
- Improved Autoboot to iR Shell plugin.
- New Comic Reader plugin based on PSPComic for CBZ and CBR files by suloku.  Original version by Archaemic.
- Added the ability to flash/blink the menu highlighting cursor.
- Added support for adhoc PC nethostfs connection under 3.xx CFWs (some additional firmware files required)
- Added a new config item in configurator to turn on/off the Music button for screen capture.
- Other bugfixes and tiny improvements.

Note:
1) CFW 3.51 M33 Original version, 3.51 M33-2 (patch 2 with WLAN fix) and 3.52 M33 are supported.  3.51 M33-3 to 7 (patch 3 to 7) are not supported due to a sceKernelLoadExecVSH bug which had been fixed in 3.52 M33.
2) The launching of PS1 games via USBHostFS & NetHostFS works on all OE firmwares and also 3.51 M33 Original & Patch 2.  The latest 3.52 M33 firmware currently has issues when launching user converted PS1 games via USBHostFS & NetHostFS, but PSN store purchased games works fine.  Team M33 is currently looking into the issue.

As always, make sure to follow the instructions that come with this package and take notice to its warnings as neither I or any members of pspbrew.com will take responsibility for your misfortunes.

AhMan and StoneCut would like to send their special thanks to…

- Dark_AleX for his previous contributions & help in iR Shell development.  We hope you had enjoyed hacking the PSP.  Happy retirement and wish you best of luck in your future endeavors.
- Team M33 for continuing DA's work and their help in fixing M33 firmware compatibility issues with iR Shell.
- All iR Shell private forum members for their contributions, including donations, testing, skin making, plugins, etc.  Without their support, especially StoneCut, you won't see this special public release.

Thats right, Team M33 have done it again! Just under two days ago Sony had released an update to their firmware bringing it to 3.52. Now, Team M33 has released their custom firmware to keep us homebrewers up to date with the latest. Along with all the fixes incorporated in the new firmware it will also include everything from their previous updates. Here's the changelog for 3.52 M33…

- Now uses 3.52!!!

- M33 NO-UMD: fixed problem with Simple 2500 Series Portable, The IQ Cube

- Fix a bug which made Go!Cam, GPS and sceKernelLoadExecVSH* not work in game mode.

- PSN downloaded PSX games support wasn't working in 3.51 M33 (didn't work in latest OE's either). Now it is working again. If an original PSN game still doesn't work, we recommend to delete files KEYS.BIN if exists, and copy the game again from ps3 to psp.

As always, make sure to follow the instructions that come with this package and take notice to its warnings as neither I or any members of pspbrew.com will take responsibility for your misfortunes.

New iR Shell coming soon

It's been more than six months since the last public release but … today AhMan, god of iR Shell, has confirmed that he will be briefly returning from his psp-scene retirement to drop "the bomb" on us all: A special new iR Shell version compatible with the newest Custom Firmware by Team M33 !

The new release will include all the excellent features which were already shown in the leaked video for a previous internal beta build of iR Shell from a couple of weeks ago. If you missed that video here's the link again: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bfk3phJ84VU – please note that this video was made using an older beta version of iR Shell made for FW3.40 OE.

New features added since the last public release:

  • Added support Team M33's newest custom firmware. If you don't want to update to M33, you will still be able to use this new release with older OE firmwares
  • Launch and multi-task with PS1 games from within iR Shell (works also via USBhostFS and NetHostFS)
  • Backup ISO plugins now integrated into iR Shell 1.5 EBOOT and 3.5x EBOOT (also supports USBhostFS and NetHostFS)
  • Backup UMD Video ISO support (some additional 1.5 firmware files required)
  • Direct switching between 1.5 EBOOT and 3.5x EBOOT via new shortcut combo
  • System-wide "Quick Exit" function to quickly shutdown games, homebrew etc and return to iR Shell
  • Improved Autoboot plugin
  • New Comic Reader plugin based on PSPComic for CBZ and CBR files by suloku
  • Added the ability to flash/blink the menu highlighting cursor
  • Added support for adhoc PC nethostfs connection under 3.51 EBOOT (some additional firmware files required)
  • Added a new config item in configurator to turn on/off the Music button for screen capture
  • Other bugfixes and tiny improvements

This special public release will not come with any support from AhMan but the iR Shell beta testers will be happy to help you in all the various forums out there.

Please be a little more patient while the final testing is taking place and the installation package is being prepared. We cannot give you an estimate of how long it will be until you can get the new release. All we can say is: SOON!

Stay tuned.
