PSP News

The U.P. (Undiluted Platinum) is a flash replacement system for the PSP™ which allows the use of previous flash updates or custom firmware builds, opening up the possibility to run unsigned homebrew code on even the latest PSP systems. The U.P. contains 32MB NAND flash which is programmable from the PC via a high speed USB connection, using our user friendly software. You may boot the PSP from either its onboard flash or the flash contained on the U.P; the flash which is used is determined by a button press as the PSP is powered on (U.P. flash is used by default, hold L1 to use the PSP onboard flash). Since U.P. provides a secondary flash which the PSP can boot from, it can even be used to restore a PSP which has been “bricked”. Every effort has been made to make our flash updater software, which will be freely available for download, both as easy to use and reliable as possible. The software also contains diagnostics which can be used by installers to determine if an installation has been successful or not.

The U.P. has been designed to minimize installation difficulty and effort. A FPC (flexible printed circuit) cable is included which routes the essential signals from the PSP motherboard to the U.P. main board and U.P. USB connector. Copper enamel wire is included, which will provide the connection between the FPC cable and the motherboard signal traces. The FPC cable also helps by reducing the mechanical stress placed on the solder points, making a U.P. modified PSP shock resistant which is important for handheld systems. Installation aids are included, and installation diagrams for all PSP hardware revisions will be available for download, together with flasher software application, from our reseller’s websites. More about installation together with install pictures closer to release.

The FPC cable end to which the USB connector board attaches is routed into the battery compartment and sits above the battery. The battery cover can be replaced after flash updating and the cable remains safely in the compartment until the next update is required, whereupon the USB connector can be clipped in place within a few seconds. This means that the U.P. is completely contained within the PSP under normal usage and avoids any unsightly external modifications to your PSP. PSP is after all portable, let’s keep it that way!

In order to maximise the benefits that U.P. can provide its users, we have decided to take an open source approach with U.P and will be releasing source code for any software we release as well as full documentation for the U.P. hardware interface – including information on how to control U.P. from within PSP programs. This will allow anybody to create software which can take advantage of what U.P. has to offer. We have also sent a few prototype units away to some of the scene’s best software hackers in order to give them a headstart at working on custom flash replacements – cant wait to see what people will come up with!

Magik has released a new homebrew tool allows you to play PMF files, legally. A PMF file is a kind of MPEG-2 stream, containing AVC video and ATRAC3 proprietary audio streams. Although such a player has been done before, this one manages to pull it off by legal means, so definitely use this method instead, if it interests you to view the gameboot.pmf\’s, and more. Great work Magik!

Check the downloads section!

Zydas has released new drivers for the ZD1211 WiFi chipset, which is used in Datel\’s WiFi MAX access point for PSP. These new drivers support "PSP Xlink Mode", meaning support for Xlink Kai, an infrastructure tunneling program which allows you to play ad-hoc PSP multiplayer games on the Internet (like virtual infrastructure mode). It\’s nice to see manufacturers starting to support homebrew products, such as Xlink Kai. Now if only Sony would hand us the \’keys\’ to homebrew!

Download the new WiFi Max drivers here.

\"PSPBrew\"

Update: The issue of 1.5 users getting eLoader from the PackGen has been resolved!

Background:

The PSPBrew Beta PackGen is a completely web-based solution to easily load your PSP with all the best homebrew to date. The PackGen is located on a web page which lets you select homebrew from an extensive list of programs, select your firmware version, choose whether or not to hide corrupts, and then finally package them all in either a zip file or .exe in ready-to-use format. Installation is easy! Simply extract the zip to your memory stick root (ms0:/) or run the exe and choose the letter of your PSP\’s drive. If you choose 2.0 firmware, eLoader will be auto-installed on your system, making firmware on 2.x easier than ever before.

At this time, it is in beta form, but all the files should work flawlessly on 1.0 and 1.5. 2.x however is a different story in that regard. We have done our best to label all the homebrew that does not work on 2.x, and in the final release we will make all non-working 2.x homebrew unchoosable when you select your firmware as being 2.0. It would still be great however if people with 2.x were willing to report to us any homebrew that did not work on their system, as we labeled the non-working ones purely out of knowlege, as we dont have any 2.0 PSPs to work with. Thanks in advance for your support, and enjoy the Beta PackGen – located in the BrewMenu! Special thanks goes out to Birdman and Skelator03 for helping load up the generator!

While they dont have a download to them yet i feel these are quite important

New PSMONKEY emualtor that allows 17 – 20 FPS, this is a huge accoplishmen
*note – he has not released the faster version yet*

New eloader availible at noobz.eu : while there is no REAL reason for this and its only compatilbe for 2.0 and 2.01 heres whats new about it:

"Various exploits were looked into, and although the projects aren\’t quite finished, they, along with others, have discovered a way to boot GTA in UPDATE mode (thanks mainly to Moonlight for discovering this). It only works on 2.0 and 2.01 firmwares, and although it is quite useless to the average PSP user, developers should feel free to take a whack at it and see what they can find, as UPDATE mode promises more chances of exploitations than does USER mode (lets just say UPDATE mode is somewhere in between KERNAL and USER modes)."

SO hopefully soon we will have kernal mode on 2.0 and 2.01 and a downgrade for 2.01
