PSP News

Alrighty, so, a while ago, FreePlay discovered a game save exploit that would run homebrew. He didn’t want to give it away because he knew Sony would patch it. However, Sony got it’s hands on the exploit and patched it up in a recent firmware update. So, FreePlay released what he had been working on. Now, we’re passing it onto you!

Firstly, I’d have to point out that this exploit requires firmware 6.10 and requires Archer McLean’s Mercury.

Second, thank you FreePlay for making this possible! This will definitely lead to some great stuff! :D

Fantastic news for all you people out there with the new PSP Go!:

There’s an eLoader being developed as we speak! FreePlay’s gotten his Savegame exploit to work and proved that it was universal- meaning that it works on all gamesaves and all PSP models. He’s now gotten the NID resolver working flawlessly and if he can peice together the eLoader source code from team N00bz of Noobz.eu, then we’ll have a perfectly working eLoader!

I can’t wait to see the outcome of this!  :D

So I was reading around the Internet that Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 users were just blocked from accessing the PlayStation Store. Since I have two PSPs I thought I’d check this out for myself… I dug up my old PSP-1000 and upgraded it to 5.00 M33-6 (from 3.90 M33). With that I tried accessing the PSN store and likewise on my PSP-2000, which is already running 5.50 GEN-A.

5.00 M33-6: It’s true. You are now prompted with, “A system software update for the PSP system is required. For update methods, refer to the instructions for the PSP system.” And even with spoofing your version using the ol’ version.txt method — you’re still denied access.

5.50 GEN-A: Keep on… You’re still in business.

Silly move on Sony’s part… Why would you ultimately deny money from custom firmware users? I’ve purchased downloads, still do.

If you’ve bought the new Evangelion: Jo or G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, then you’d be happy to know that there actually is a future for homebrew for you. I’ve been watching this exploit since day one and apparently, Sony hasn’t. Shame on them. they’ve come out with 3 firmware updates and none of them patched this exploit. Maybe this is the king of all exploits. Ya’ know, ‘The Unpatchable Exploit.’ It seems the code is triggered by a glitch in the game. Sony would have to include files in an update to specifically deal with the glitch. Due to the laberynth of legal contracts, it may be illegal for Sony to do.

I’ve seen comments on blog sites saying that this won’t ever get anywhere, but I must insist that you watch the video before saying something like that yourself. The guy that got this to work has a little program he runs from it. That is a definite sign of what this will probably turn into.

X

We all know that alpha versions of programs aren’t meant to be released publically and used over betas but this one is pretty nice. I’m glad to see many much-needed updates for this emulator. I personally love this emulator and you probably would too!

Sega

Yabause 0.9.10 is  SEGA Saturn emulator for the PSP. It’s experimental and not all the games work. Of course, you’d also have to find the SEGA Saturn BIOS by yourself. They aren’t that hard to find and Google will really help you out if you know the magic key-words.

Pers

Some people have gotten there hands on a dev version of Persona for the PSP over at Siliconera. What’s interesting, however, is that the game includes the mandatory firmware 5.55 update.

Chicken

One of our forum members, kairus101, released Chicken Invaders V1 recently. It’s a clone of the original Chicken Invaders for the PC. All you’ve got to do is put the folder from the Download onto your Memory Stick Pro Duo and launch it up! I’m a personal fan of chickens and I’m sure you’ll love this game! Try it out!

Naru

aznag88 stopped by our forum to release Naruto (Contra Edition) V2 for the PSP.

It’s basically a side-scroller that’s very similar to Contra for the NES but with Naruto characters. You’ve got to make your way to the final boss defeat him and kill his menions along the way.

Here’s what’s new in this update:

  • Platforms
  • 2 bosses
  • Better AI
  • Score
  • Energy
  • Mini-story
  • Every enemy is different and it follows the Naruto anime story
  • 2 Difficulties
  • Combination key for cheating

Apparently, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’s UMD requires the user to update to 5.55. No real word yet on what it updates but surely it blocks the 5 exploits people are working on for 5.50 and 5.51. It’s yet to be confirmed but what we all can agree that this will be bypassed soon as this is a warning that a wave of new updates is coming out.
