PSP News

This is my first homebrew attempt, it\’s a simple game, but not so easy to win.
The goal is simple, you have to find out what the secret code is.

Using left and right on your analog pad, you select the circle.
Using up and down you change the cirlce\’s colour.
If you are satisfied with the colours of the row, press X,
now the little circles will show how good your guess was:

- the number of green circles is the number of correct colors at the correct place
- the number of blue circles is the number of correct colors at the incorrect place

This game is limited to 6 attempts, it is based on mini mastermind which is a mini version of the original mastermind.

If feedback is positive, I plan on expanding the game with the following:
- more (and harder) game modes
- high score list
-two player mode (one player inputs the code, the other one has to crack it)

WARNING: If you used FlashMod 1.0 or 1.5 to change Backgrounds please Restore the Default Backgrounds with 2.0 and install your custom background again. This is due to the original writing to flash code when it couldn\’t find a file it would just write it as 0 bytes.

New Features:

-UMD 2.00 or higher support:.
Not yet finished and requires a 2.00+ Firmware in the root of your memory stick in the folders "Flash0" and "Flash1". Right now the only fix i have is a untested SOCOM fix. It will also run your UMD\’s at 333Mhz for the CPU and 166Mhz for GPU. This will not write to your Firmware or UMD.

-UMD Loading support:.
This will runs UMD\’s without 2.00 or higher support. It will also run your UMD\’s at 333Mhz for the CPU and 166Mhz for GPU. Which means Faster Loading time and smoother Gameplay.
-Change XMB Menu Names:.
This will let you change your XMB Menu Names just follow these steps:

   1. Extract the Utilities folder on to your Desktop.

   2. Go into the Utilities folder and run "PSPMenuEdit.exe"

   3. Now select you Language and click on the button [...] under [Edit topmenu_plugin.rco]

   4. Now select [topmenu_plugin.rco] which should be located in the utilities folder.

   5. Once you are done editing all your Menu Names just click [Patch File] and copy the [topmenu_plugin.rco] out of the utilities folder to the root of you memory stick.

   6. Now go into FlashMod and select [Install Custom XMB Menu Names] and your done.
-Even safer writing
Now will not write if it can\’t find the file and will display the [Flash Complete] Picture longer.

-Version used Info
Now if you are unsure of what version you have used of FlashMod just go to your XMB (Cross Media Bars) and go to [Settings]-[System Settings]-[About PSP™] and after it shows the copyright information it should tell you "Firmware Flashed with: FlashMod Version 2.00"

-New Graphical User Interface
Now with discriptions for all the features included on the GUI.

-New Agreement
The new agreement is due to FlashMod being Open Source and Public Domain which could cause people to download a Version of FlashMod that might not be from Orbis PSP Development. So for yours protection I urge you not to download FlashMod if it does not say Orbis PSP Development. As for people that want to release their own version of FlashMod please tell me before releasing any unofficial versions.

This program will add and remove the wavey effect on your PSP. This has been tested before on a PSP and it works perfectly on Firmware 1.50. If you want to use the change background utility, just put the background you want in the root of you memory stick.

ms0:/xx.bmp
xx=Number of month (Ex. 01, 02, 03, 04, 05…)

           \"

Version 1.0 currently has these features:
-Remove Wavey Effect
-Add Wavey Effect
-Change Background
-Restore Background

Version 2.0 hopefully will include:
-User Friendly GUI
-Menu Renamer
-Cross and Circle Button switch

WARNING!: This program writes to your flash memory and could potentially damage your PSP. Use at your own risk!

So as christmas passed by I decided to get my little cousin a PSP. I went to target to purchase to get the PSP due to obvious return reasons (they have a good return policy).

When he got the chance to open it (last week) We realized two things. (1) The seal for the box was previously broken and a new seal was placed on the old seal. (2) It had a TON of dead pixels.  We quickly went to Target and asked for a trade. But we wanted to check the box before we traded. Turned out all 37 boxes that the Target had that just had been shipped FROM SONY, had broken seals that had been resealed. (you could see two layers of tape with the bottom seal being cracked).  The seal was the extra thick tape which comes from Sony so it was obviously coming from them. We returned the PSP to Target and moved on.  Bestbuy had new boxes but they were all \’G\’ meaning version 2.01. Then we visited Circuit City where we found 2 boxes. 1 had a broken seal that was taped over and the other one seemed to be new, so we quickly grabbed that one.  Luckily that one turned out perfect. But for people that dont know (for ex. most parents) this is something that they would get ripped off on!

How does this NOT qualify as refurbished?? I dont know but this is seriously some sort of fraud. Repackaging PSP\’s with dead pixels??!

Tips:
(1) Look at the piece of tape (seal) that keeps the box shut. If there is two pieces of tape this has been REPACKAGED.
(2) If your book, memory card, and cleaning wipe bag is not melted shut but rather closed with a piece of tape this package is REPACKAGED.
(3) From the research we did it seems that the newer PSP boxes version G and up are mostly not repackaged. But EVERY version C except for the 1 we found in the very back at circuit city were ALL repackaged!

If you got a repackaged item there is a GOOD chance you have dead pixels.

Here is how to check for dead pixels:
(1) Download This
(2) Put it on your memory card like this-  DRIVE:/PSP/PHOTO/
(3) Go to PHOTO on your PSP and cycle through the colors (using the top l+r buttons) and check for dead or stuck pixels.

Well, what can you say? Fanjita has done it again, he\’s made it possible to run homebrews on all of the firmwares!

From Readme
:
- v2.60 support
- Better compatibility with 2.01 and 2.50
- Improved the game slightly – now faster, with speed increase as you fill more lines.

To install:
Unzip the contents of this package into the PSP/SAVEDATA folder on your memory stick. Note that if you have an existing savegame that uses slot 5, then this will be overwritten by the Tetris savegame.

To use:
Start up GTA as normal. When it has loaded, select "Load Game", select the Tetris savegame and confirm the load as normal. After a short delay, the Tetris game should start.

To quit the game, you will need to hold your power button for 10 seconds. The HOME button looks like it might work, but it doesn\’t, yet.

Download:
 [Tetris for 2.60]

*Note: this version might be more stable than the 2.50 Tetris released on 01/09/06.

\"4GB
Sony has updated their MemoryStick website to include their latest product unveiling at the International consumer electronics show. Touting the way of "Gigabyte Life" as their theme, Sony announced that they plan to release 4GB and 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo\’s sometime in 2006. There is no price range at the moment, but you can bet it\’ll be pretty pricey at first. The upside to that is we can expect a price drop on the 2GB memory sticks when these products hit shelves. But as our attentive readers have pointed out in the comments, the PSP doesn\’t currently support any storage media exceeding 4GB, so you can expect a firmware update to be released at about the same time as these new memory sticks to accomodate for the massive storage if Sony wants PSP users to snatch up the 8GB version.

1) You must first install a webserver on your PSP. k7m has written one specifically for iTunesRemote which you can download [here]. To install it, simpley unzip the file and start iTunesRemote.exe. The webserver is listening on port 81, so you only have to browse to

http://[Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php.

2) Open iTunesRemote.php in Notepad. change the variable $pathToHTTPDir to the directory that iTunesRemote.php is in (my file has a different location in it, so be wary). Remember that in PHP, all symbols must be preceded by a , which is why one should separate directories with "\\" in this instance (you\’ll get an error otherwise).

3) Make sure iTunes is open and has a song in the ticker bar

4) Navigate your PSP or Wipeout Browser to http://[LocalHost Here]/psp/iTunesRemote.php (or whatever file structure you placed inside of the htdocs folder)

5) Enjoy your iTunes Remote Contoller. It makes you a lot less dorky searching through your music library with a sleek PSP than with your computer, so be sure to use this to your advantage.
