PSP News

I\’m sure there are plenty of you who have brilliant ideas for PSP games, but have the pesky problem of not knowing a scrap about Programming for the PSP. Thankfully, Adventure Maker is releasing a new version of their software, and what\’s even better is that games created in Adventure Maker work on PSP\’s with 2.x Firmware making use of the Web Browser! And to top it all off, it\’s free! The staff at Adventure Maker has emailed us these details about their newest release:

The changes include:

- New PSP engine for better visual experience
- Integrity-check routines for error-free software compilation
- Added support for animations (animated GIF\’s)
- Added support for timers to go to other places after a given time
- Added semi-transparent background for the text messages
- Improved installer for loading the produced software on the PSP

Adventure Maker is the ONLY toolkit available for creating point-and-click software for legal 2.x PSP\’s. No scripting or programming is required, and the program is totally free!

The produced software is compatible with any legal firmware 2.x, and does not require any system modification or hacking of any kind! (it is safe HTML-based software that runs through the PSP built-in Browser)

What you can create for the PSP is:
- First-person point-and-click adventure games
- Interactive magazines
- Myst/Riven-like games
- Educational software
- Quiz games
- Interactive visits
- Tour guides (museums, sites…)
- Interactive presentations and brochures
- Interactive comic books

..and any other pre-rendered point-and-click software!

The concept is very simple: you import your pictures (photos, drawings, renderings…), you add hotspots to link them to one another, and you are done! You can even create complex puzzles without any scripting: just create some variables, and then make the hotspots or pictures appear or disappear depending on the value of the variables!

To see a few examples of what you can achieve without any programming, make sure to try out the free PSP games available at the following URL:
http://www.adventuremaker.com/games_for_portable.htm\\

Danopoly\’s say:

 For those that are confused, this allows you to make games that can be played on a 2.60 firmware. But even though this may sound cool, i suggest you DO NOT UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE! But since this your made games can be runned off the browser itself, i suggest you use the custom firmware 1.5 and give your 1.5 some 2.0 capabilities and then use this adventure maker.

"The concept of creating a custom firmware package that will allow the best of both worlds above and below the 2.0 mark has been around for a while. Thanks to GameShark that\’s all starting to change. He has created the first "custom" firmware package that has all the abilities of a 1.50 PSP, but has the added media capabilities and codecs of 2.0+

Features:
1.5 – Full HB
2.0 Media Fetures

This is a Beta If there are any problems Just Let me know

I hope to add 2.0 UMD support to the next release

Also next release will be pacaged so that it can be added to an existing 1.5"

Right now you need The MPH FW Launcher

Custom 1.5 firmware media edition: [Download Here]

So for those that are confused, what this does is that it allows you to run firmware 1.5 with firmware 2.0 capabilities. (wallpaper switcher, internet browser etc) Still in it\’s beta stages, there are more updates to come. AND DO NOT USE THIS AS A 1.5 UPDATE! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Happy Holidays!!

For you new PSP\’ers here is the tutorial of how to downgrade:
http://www.hackaday.com/entry/1234000687060851/

Check here to see if yours is compatible!
\"Version\"

A = 1.50 (Homebrew Ready)
B = 1.51 (Can be downgraded)
C-E = 1.52  (Can be downgraded)
F = 2.00 (Can be downgraded)
G = 2.01 *(CANNOT be downgraded)
H = 2.50 *(CANNOT be downgraded)

*For those of who cannot currently downgrade dont lose hope! 2.0 was previously thought to be impenetrable, but it was figured out… so dont lose hope ;) Our recommendation? Get a lower version if you can (if they have them) otherwise dont upgrade your firmware as they may figure it out for your current version!
