School sucks… but guess what… ITS DONE!!

I have officially graduated from college. I am working full time and have vowed to remake this site to what it should be.  For those of you that have kept the place up… dano for instance. (he obviously is going to be made an admin).

If you are interested in helping out.  Now is the time to tell me.  Plan is we have everything back in full swing by Christmas.

Here is the current plan:
Move PSPBrew.com to a much much faster server add on Xboxbrew.com and hand the reigns on that to terdinglage.

I am adding RSS etc… first and then will start the reconstruction of parts of the site.  Any ideas/comments/recomendations would be well appreciated.

Lets get in some magazines again.

butterballer360 over at psp3d.com has confirmed a version 2.5 overflow! These folks have discovered a way around the TIFF overflow patch for the recent exploit discovered in firmware version 2.0. Similar to the initial exploit discovered in 2.0 this currently “freezes” the PSP when executed – allowing the possibility of arbitrary code to be ran.

THIS IS NOT A DOWNGRADER… WE RECOMMEND WAITING TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING.

Trojan.PSPBrick has been named by Symantec as a class 1 virus. It was discovered today (Oct 6th). See it here

The payload is described as: “Deletes files which are required for the Playstation Portable device to restart correctly.” It goes on to say it deletes 4 files. This rendes the PSP USELESS.

    Here is the Technical Details:

Trojan.PSPBrick arrives as an archive file named EXPLOIT 2G PSP Team V1.RAR which consists of the files overflow.tif and h.bin. Instructions call for the file h.bin to be placed in the root of a USB device and overflow.tif in the folder /PSP/PHOTO/. This archive may also contain a text file called PSPTEAM.NFO.

When executed, Trojan.PSPBrick performs the following actions:

    1. Deletes the following critical system files:

      • /vsh/etc/index.dat
      • /kd/loadcore.prx
      • /kd/loadexec.prx
      • flash6:/kd/init.prx

        Notes:

      • These files are required for restarting the Playstation Portable device correctly.
    2. Displays the following message:

      “Your 2.0[REMOVED]oot “
      “Thank you P[REMOVED]ch team”
      “Fu[REMOVED]ooser”

    3. Displays the following message, when the file overflow.tif uses an exploit to cause the execution of h.bin:

      “PS[REMOVED]2.0 firmware”
      “Thank’s t[REMOVED]2.0 exploit :)

    4. Prevents the Playstation Portable device from restarting correctly once the Trojan is executed.

We at PSPBrew will be adding some information that will help you avoid losers that do this crap. Please be careful with what you download and always run a virus scan.

Welcome to 1.50, PSP firmware 2.0 users! MPH has created a WORKING downgrader from PSP firmware 2.0 to firmware 1.50. This takes advantage of the toc2rta exploit and allows for the full downgrade of firmware 2.0 to firmware 1.50. I have tried this myself and have successfully downgraded from firmware 2.0 to firmware 1.50. Homebrew and UMD games WILL both work after the downgrade.

Although this has been tried and found working, this does not mean there is no risk involved so use at your own risk.

Steps to use the MPH downgrader:
    - Create an UPDATE folder in the /PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
    - Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder
    - Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
    - Copy overflow.tif in your /PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
    - Copy h.bin to root of your memory stick (meaning in ms0:/)
    - Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick (meaning in ms0:/ as well)
    - Plug the AC adaptor

You memory stick filesystem should look like this (where X is your memory sticks directory):

    X:/h.bin
    X:/index.dat
X:/PSP/PHOTO/overflow.tif (with no other pictures in there)
X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP (the 1.50 Firmware update eboot)

What you do next is go into the Photo Menu on the PSP and it will show some jumbled text, which is normal. Wait about 30 seconds and then restart your PSP.

From there you will now have a new file in your PSP’s root directory called ms0:/index.dat.bak. In the next step you will go to your Game Menu, Then Memory Stick, and then Launch “PSP Update ver 1.50.”

It will then ask you if you really want to downgrade and then lead you along to the actual installing. Here is where I got scared. It installed to 99% then errored. This is OK. Restart your PSP and turn it back on. It will come up with another error which is OK as well. Restart it again and you will have PSP firmware version 1.50, and it will lead you through setting up language and time etc. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of legal homebrew, not piracy.

You can get the MPH Downgrader http://www.mphwebsite.com

You can get the 1.50 Update Eboot PSPupdates Download section [here].

    Flash Conversion Tutorial
    FlashPack Conversion Tutorial

    Overview
After a decent amount of work, I’ve finally finished the Flash Coversion Tutorial. This will give you all the resources you need in order to make Flash Videos work on your PSP. I came out with this due to a large flood of requests I couldn’t keep up with, so now if you want a video in the FlashPack, you get to convert it yourself! We dont have an upload method as of now, so you will have to host it on a temp server and contact me if you want it added to the pack. Hopefully you guys will rise to the occasion and make some good videos, as I just don’t have the time anymore. And please, don’t just make videos just for your own use, I made this tutorial so we could have more videos in the FlashPack, not your personal library.

You can download the tutorial here.

    From the psp-dev website

"We want to announce that the colaboration between the two groups has been completly finished without success. We also want to announce that WAB has been disolved. The relatioship between the two groups were vanishing days ago (some of our members were banned from their server) and there is no progress with the colaboration.

In addition, the downgrader project (never finished) is immediatelly cancelled (it is not an excuse, we can’t explain our reasons, but are enough to do this).

    Time for meditation…"

I hope one of these groups feels the need to finish this.

    smashpack

The SmashPack! has been updated with the newest version of SmashGpsp!

Here is what mATkEUpON had to say:

Here is the third beta of SmashGpsp, a N64 Super Smash Brothers "port", released for Gp32 as SmashGp, and ported to the PSP.

In this version, music has been added, transparency effect on the background layer, with the correspoding settings working. Multiple character pages has been fixed, navigation on character and arena selection menus has been improved. Some sounds have been fixed, and survival mode now preloads some characters to avoid fights with copies of your character only. 24bit bmps are now really supported as background pics (see the 2 new arenas included in the package).

goto http://www.pspbrew.com/?page=smashpack.php to make your custom Smash game.
