XBox News

Here's a video with commentary of EA's new Madden NFL 2009 Demo for the Xbox 360.  I skipped over the ridiculous training mode that set your IQ, because I really, really hated it (and the video woulda been a too long).  I'll brief you on that part through the magic of words instead.  The running mode was basically a long, drawn out game of simon says.  The QB mode was the same as the Pocket Prensence drill of the last five years or so.  Then there was the tackling drill, which obviously entailed you tackling the running back.  Finally, there was cornerback coverage drill, which for some reason went into slow motion when I was trying to make an interception.  Anyways, when I got to the actual gameplay, I found out EA has actually done a pretty decent job this year, check it out:

TVersityTVersity 1.0 RC2 has just been released lately, with some much needed features added, as well as some enjoyable ones. One of my most favorite changes has to be the support for album art. The image isn't limited to the icon that Windows Media Player or Winamp produce, but you can also use your own art by using the naming convention included in the readme. While this release isn't a full on v1.0 release, it is still very close. The album art interface is also not limited to Wiis but any HTML (PS3's, Blackberries, iPhones, PSP's, etc.) and Flash (Wii!) interface. Here is the changelog for your viewing pleasure:

Quote:

New Features:
-Album art support is now available and is compatible with the Sony PS3 as well as with the HTML interface (PSP, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.) and flash interface (Wii). Album art relies on JPEG files conforming to certain naming conventions that are present in the same folder as music tracks. These files can be created by either Windows Media Player or WinAmp and TVersity will pick them up, or users can add them manually.
-Individual YouTube videos can now be added by pointing the browser to a specific video on YouTube and dragging and dropping the address bar icon to TVersity (or copying and pasting the URL).

Bug Fixes:
-MShare now refreshes as fast as it was in 0.9.11.4.
-No files are periodically added to the Temporary Internet Files folder while the GUI is running (browser caching was turned off).
-Fix crashes when adding/refreshing some FLAC and some MP3 files.
-Flash interface is now more reliable when switching from one live stream to another and then going back to first one.
-TVersity service was failing to start on machines that had a non ASCII character in their hostname.

Bungie AnnouncementThere have been rumblings about a new game coming out of Bungie Studio's, and it looks like we finally have comfirmation about what that game will be.  Recently, Bungie had a countdown set on their website to reveal a brand new project they've been working on for a while now.  Unfortunately, their "publisher" (read: Microsoft), informed them that their exciting announcement was a no-go.  Oddly enough, someone from Microsoft has apparently broken the news personally – Xbox Head of Business Don Mattrick.  Thanks for the convenient slip of the tongue Don:

Here’s something to add to all the E3 drama this week about Bungie Studios‘ canceled/postponed/hyped debut of a new game…

In an interview shot for MTV News on Tuesday, Microsoft’s head of Xbox business Don Mattrick, confirmed to me that Bungie is indeed working on a new “Halo” game of some sort for Microsoft.

I had been asking Mattrick about the lack of “Halo” news at E3. He said that Microsoft’s Monday press conference was already loaded with content and so any announcements for that series weren’t needed to get gamers excited.

I pushed him on the lack of presence for the series and asked him if we should be worried about the no-show of Ensemble Studio’s real-time-strategy game “Halo Wars.” Not only did Mattrick say not to worry and that announcements would be coming, he also said that Microsoft is working with Bungie on a “Halo” game.

I asked for clarification, wondering if Mattrick meant Bungie’s project was “Halo Wars” or the long-announced Peter Jackson “Halo” project. Neither, Mattrick said. The Bungie game is something else.

And then, not surprisingly, the topic was changed.

Halo Blue

It looks like there is even more evidence in support of a Halo game being announced at Microsofts forthcoming E3 press conference.  With only a few hours to go, we'll just have to wait and see:

Quote:

A trusted Wal-Mart source has sent Joystiq an image taken from the company's intranet, "The Wire," showing a listing for Halo "Blue." We've also received an unverified tip detailing Halo "Blue," though it's unclear whether that information stems from the same retail listing. With so little information available about what Blue is, we're guessing the shown Sept. 30 date is placeholder. The Microsoft press conference is in less than 12 hours, so stay tuned.

Price Drop
Microsoft has just officially made the well known rumored 60GB Xbox 360 Premium console a reality! To complement the storage increase, the original 20GB models will be sold for only $299.99, with the 60GB model taking the current price point of $349.99. Here's the actual press release, straight from the horse's mouth:
Quote:

Redmond, Washington—Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.

Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. In addition, Microsoft today dropped the price of its 20GB Xbox 360 console in the U.S. and Canada to just $299 (U.S.) (ERP) while supplies last, a savings of $50.

"We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we're giving it to them at no extra charge," said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. "No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you'll have three times the storage to manage all that great content."

Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft's Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games, is a value for the whole family for $279 (U.S.) (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for $449 (U.S.) (ERP).

Out of the box, the Xbox 360 console is ready to provide an incredible gaming and entertainment experience…

Halo 4

News has just started to circulate about a supposedly major announcement that Bungie has in store for July 14th, which coincidentally is the same as the Microsoft E3 Press Conference:

Quote:

The latest Bungie podcast, which features the usual internal shenanigans — we get up to speed on the developer's air conditioning situation whilst discussing all things Halo — ends with a potential tease about the team's next title being revealed. After lamenting the lack of hard, breaking news over the course of the 91-minute(!) podcast, co-hosts Brian Jarrard and Luke Smith cruelly tease something being revealed at E3.

The following exchange wraps up the Bungie Podcast.

Brian: Isn't there something going on on July 14th or something like that?
      Luke: Yeah, around then.
Brian: Somehow that's sticking in my head for some reason. Guess we'll have to see.
Luke: Yep, we'll just have to be patient. Who could say?

No, not very helpful. Listening to it though, is very different from reading it, as Smith and Jarrard's delivery leaves little doubt that Bungie has something up its sleeve.

We're sure that since both Microsoft and EA are holding their press conferences that day, at least one of them is going to announce something good. And it might even be Bungie related. And it might even have something to do with that little plunger man they've been shoving in our faces all year.

This news is particularily interesting, as it backs up a story that surfaced a couple days ago. You may or may not have seen this elsewhere, but there's also a rumor going around that Halo 4 is supposed to be announced at E3.  It looks like this annonymous source may be telling the truth…

Quote:

Our inside woman/man/thing got hold of some pretty exciting news. News that Bungie was already hard at work developing what will be Halo 4. Now we're told that this will be announced officially at E3.

A new Non-Stealth version of the Benq iXtreme firmware has been released, curtosy of C4E:

Quote:

Benq iXtreme 1.41 Rev 2 Non-Stealth Multispeed

The Non-Stealth users of the Benq iXtreme firmware only had one choice speed wise when they chose the Non-Stealth firmware and that was 8x. This package gives users of Benq iXtreme Non-Stealth the choice to use whatever speed they prefer (2x, 5x, 8x, 12x).

This is NOT an update to iXtreme firmware for Benq users…this is merely an update to the Non-Stealth version which only provides different speed choices NOTHING else.

Credit goes to C4E and others, it was named Rev 2 to avoid confusion.
