What you have heard is right, it is not DAX. Instead, it is based off of DAX's work. It is still unknown who is the creator of this firmware. This time, it's no patch, it's the real thing. This release includes in-XMB recovery.

    Changes:

    Uses the 3.93 kernel

Same ol' same ol' custom firmware features.

Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:

    • When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.
    • All options work immediately, there is no need to reboot
    • Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.
    • Ability to hide the MAC address in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0’s.
    • Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).
    • The native 3.93 pops isn’t as good as the previous pops; therefore hopefully the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.

    1.50 Kernel:

    • Install kernel 1.50 on a PSP Fat. To use the 1.50 kernel for an application, you will DEFINATELY need to put the kernel to 1.50, even if the application is in the GAME150 directory. If you change the kernel in VSH Recovery, you’ll still need a reboot.
    • The new recovery has these two asked features:
      • Suspend device
      • Shutdown device

Keep in mind that a just newly release CFW is like a box of chocolates, you never know watcha' gunnu get! It's up to you and you only if you want to take the risk and upgrade.

    WARNING!!!

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PSP UNATTENDED WHILE DOING THIS UPDATE, YOU WILL NEED TO PRESS "X" RIGHT AFTER THE SONY INSTALLER IS OVER OR ELSE YOU WILL GET A BRICK!

    R14's new menu

PSP users that also love their Nintendo 64 have been using Daedalus for some time. While riddled with minor bugs and issues that rendered some games unplayable, games like Super Mario 64 functioned well on the emulator. R14, the next release, currently in it’s beta stages, has numerous new features and fixes made to improve functionality.

    Changelog:

  • Dynarec Stack Optimisation = small speedup (located in the Rom Preferences)
  • Highlight Inexact Blend Modes = replaces inexact blend modes with a placeholder texture (located in Global Settings)
  • VFPU TnL = acceleration of vertex transform and lighting / small speedup (located in Global Settings)
  • Clear Fragment Cache = clears the contents of the dynarec fragment cache / do this before loading a new game to avoid freezes and such (located after pausing a rom, works great too)
  • Font in GUI has been altered
  • The beta is too unstable to be released yet, but the future looks promising for N64 players. Stick around for more information on the application and it’s release. [source: QJ.net]

For a long time now, Metal Gear players have been waiting for the Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta kick-off.  Unfortunately their joy has been delayed because of a patch that Konami has been installing.

The wait is now over. Users in all regions can now triumphantly log on to the MGO servers and play their eyes out.  As promised, it will start with the players creating their own characters and customizing their stats.  Have fun.

Microsoft is currently assembling a team which may very well work with renowned Hollywood director Peter Jackson. The official Microsoft website recently posted a listing on its career page looking for talented people willing to "help develop a new experience in the Halo universe".

It was also announced during the X06 event in Barcelona that the project will be under the supervision of Peter Jackson. A Microsoft spokesperson mentioned that the development of the new collaboration is well underway and the expanding of the internal team was needed to keep everything up to speed.

However, Bungie Studios will not be a part of this project. Microsoft is now looking for a Creative Director, a Producer, Game Engineers and other specialists to join the team.

Does this also mean that there might also be a possibility of the revival or our dreams of the long awaited Halo movie everyone was talking about last year?  Unfortunately, there has been no word on that specifically… yet.

EA has just confirmed that Brett Favre is this years pick for Madden's cover boy.

    brett20favre.jpg picture by imagehack

This will be the first time that Madden has displayed a retired player on the cover.  This unorthodox choice was commented on by Madden NFL Executive Producer Dale Jackson saying,  "Madden NFL Football and Brett Favre are sports icons who have set the standard and revolutionalized their positions within their respective genres, Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years – longevity, excellence, and a love of football."

Also, on his blog, head of EA sports Peter Moore says, "It is with great pride that we take the bold step of featuring a retired player on the front of packaging, an honor normally reserved for a player at the peak of his game. I say with great pride, because some may question the marketing strategy behind this. I don't for one minute. In this, the 20th year of this storied game franchise, as far as I was concerned there was only one choice. As we look back over the past couple of decades in the NFL, Brett stands out to me personally as a beacon for everything that made me a huge fan of this great game from almost the moment I arrived from the UK in the early eighties…"

A little bit dated, but only by five days, we bring you WiiPaint 1.0. It seems homebrew programs are coming out of the crawlspaces now. This is definitely a good thing to see. Many people are saying that the Wii's homebrew scene may eventually catch up to the PSP's homebrew scene in terms of the majority of people using and creating homebrew specifically on the Wii. That may be true, maybe not, but until we find out, you can thank Kontakatilu for this developing paint tool, WiiPaint 1.0. The source site is in Spanish, but that shouldn't stop you from understanding how to download it. You can translate the page if you have to.

Yes, it's true, Grand Theft Auto 4 has been leaked. Apparently, this is only pertaining to the PAL version of the game, unless someone can come forth and say for sure that the NTSC version was also cracked. Does this spell disaster for Grand Theft Auto 4? No, not necessarily. Many people are saying that it may jeopardize the possibilities of a PC version in the future because so much money will have already been lost that opening up the game in the PC market would only be asking for more piracy. Those critics may be correct. After all, you don't see Microsoft or Bungie talking about Halo 3 on the PC do you? Halo 3 was also leaked to the internet about one week prior to its release just as Grand Theft Auto 4 was. Let's hope both make their way to the PC platform, but more importantly, it should be stressed that you should BUY games worth buying, and with a franchise like the Grand Theft Auto series, you know this next installment will be worth your 50-60 clams.
