2007 CES Coverage!

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today that it has been given top honors by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences as the recipient of a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the PlayStation 3's SIXAXIS controller. SCEA will accept this award at a presentation held tonight during the International Consumer Electronics Show 2007 in Las Vegas.

"The overwhelming consumer demand and critical acclaim for PS3 is a testament of the platform's strength and the industry's desire for a true next-generation entertainment system," said Jack Tretton president of SCEA. "The full potential of this powerful machine has yet to be realized — what you've seen so far is just a taste of what will be on the table for 2007 and years to come."

The SIXAXIS wireless controller features motion-sensing to detect body movements and interpret them into in-game actions. The PS3 will be on display during the International CES tradeshow, January 8-11, in the Sony Electronics Booth.

ps3 usb driver for pc

Currently these drivers allow you to connect your controller to the computer. However as these are NOT sony drivers the motion sensing will not work.

Here are the installation instructions:

  • Install libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe, which comes in the zip file.
  • Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
  • Plug the SIXAXIS to the PC (via the USB cable), which should have come with your purchased PS3.
  • Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once. (DO NOT RUN THIS TWICE! (errors occur) )
  • Push the 'PS' button if the program doesn't correctly initialize with the SIXAXIS

    Download the drivers here

    Thanks RyanB for the news.

    sony motion sense
When the PS3 was introduced many people were displeased with the controller design. Some were unhappy due to the fact that the rumble had been taken out, others felt that Sony had simply "copied" some of the ideas of another company, some people probably didn't care as long as the controller worked for their system. The fact of the matter is this, the SIXAXIS controller has received mixed responses.

A not-so-recent patent by Sony has been unearthed for all the world to see. The patent is for a remote input device for a gaming console. A note from the abstract:

An input device providing users with a pointing capability includes a sender portion and a receiver portion. The sender portion is adapted to be manipulated by a user to specify a target point within a target area. The sender portion projects a light beam including a pattern on to the target area. A receiver portion includes one or more sensor units located in or near the target area.

Sound familiar? Sounds like the a description of the Wiimote technology, but it's a Sony patent.

What are you're thoughts on this? You can discuss them here

    Zephyer
Looks like there may be a new version of the Xbox 360 hitting shelves sometime in the near future, heres the inside info Engadget was given by an insider:

"Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 — the Xbox 360 v2, if you will — codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon." "

daedalus r 8For some people, strmnrmn created the essence of N64 Emulation, mostly just for PSP, but Windmillhas transformed that essence for Dark Alex's 2.71 Homebrew enabler (HEN-D). Using PatchSFO, he

was able to mod the eboot for xloader under the PSP/GAME directory (in this case, Daedalus on the xloader) and so he did.

Same as always, put the folders in the designated directories, and roms too, and

you're good to go! If you are unclear read the readme or come and ask about it at out forums .

    None the less, enjoy!

    Dark_Alex has done it again!

Say goodbye to 3.02 OE, and hello to the new 3.03 OE-A! There are only a few updates from it's 3.02 counterpart, but there's one that stands out most of all. Along with the transition to a new firmware version, this new Custom Firmware supports compression of PSX ISOs! No word yet on how high the compression level is, but it's better that a full non-compressed ISO. According to the readme, the changes are as follows:

    • Change from firmware 3.02 to 3.03
    • Added support for compression in psx isos (look at popstation documentation for more details)
    • Added support for decrypted document.dat (psx games manual) (look at docmaker documentation for more details)
    • Fixed a bug regarding free region: a stupid bug caused it not to work at all. Now it should work, although it has not been tested due to lack of umd's of different regions between the testers and me
    • Some generic bug fixes in the code
    • Redded the sdk <– (I think it's readied.)
As with all flash oriented programs, you always run the risk of bricking your PSP. PSP Brew will not be held liable for any damages caused by this program. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK, but have fun with your new firmware!

A third PS3 model is in the works! (Or so the rumor goes) Currently there are only two PS3 models: the 20 GB hard drive and the 60 GB hard drive. From what we have heard there will be a "media-centric" variant. This "third" model will have these additional features:
    • An Anti vibration mechanism for the Blu-ray disc drive
    • 12 MB XDR Memory
    • Advanced Power Supply Units
    • Two HDMI Connectors (divides video and audio files and data, including transfer)
Many people are saying that they like this new model, so if true Sony has succesfully appealed to the extreme gamers with this. The price has been said to be an astonishing $2.5K ($2,500).

The image here is not the model.
