The sales for the Wii in Japan just surge through the roof! In the third week of december, sale prices went sky high, as the new hard to buy games arrived throughout the country. Over atleast 297,000 units were shipped and sold sais Media Create Co. Ltd. For Japan that is more than almost half triple the amount of current weekly sales. Media Create also sais that the supply is limited to how much Wiis can be stored as of now.

With so little time left, Nintendo is greiving boldly at the edge to await its millionth wii console sale (I sure would of wanted to be that guy if I hadn't of baught one too early ;} ) Up to the day before new years, over 800, 900 million consoles have been sold! It jumps straight ahead of the PS3 and 360, for PS3 only 76,000 consoles were sold this week, as for 360 only 16,000. You guys know the scores, so keep at those sales Nintendo!

The PlayStation 3 analyst hate train just keeps on rolling with research analyst Michael Comeau's latest piece. It's the typical fare, dogging Sony for their pricey inclusion of the PS3's Blu-ray drive and taking Sony to task for losing precious third-party exclusives (including the former time-exclusive Grand Theft Auto) like Guitar Hero and Virtua Fighter 5.

But Comeau's warning that Sony will lose market share combined with the fact that the PlayStation business has "provided more than 60% of Sony's operating profit despite hovering around 10% of overall Sony revenue" should give shareholders and Sony cause for concern.

Kotaku has a great piece up looking at trends over time in the PS3 grey market.

Michael Fahey has been tracking the falling prices for Sony's new console, via sales on eBay and other markets. He called around to stores as well, getting a feel for the number of returns and current availability of the console.

His conclusions:
"As it turns out my gamer instincts and the threat of hordes of angry readers steered me clear of potential disaster. Aside from a couple brief spikes, there is no way I'd have been able to pull off the television, and I know damn well I would have waited for Christmas like so many others did, only to lose even more. There's no such creature as a sure thing. The majority of eBay prospectors walked away from this experience with that lesson burned into the back of their brains. My suggestion for the future? If you want to gamble, go to Vegas. If you want to invest, try mutual funds. Leave the video game system buying to the gamers. We'll all be happier for it."

wii game of the year zelda"Why It Rocked: Simply put, Nintendo's four-years-in-development adventure game lived up to the hype – and there was frankly a lot of it. Twilight Princess is the pinnacle of the Zelda franchise and the epitome of everything that makes Link's quests so much fun. It's got great control, unparalleled level design, a non-linear-style overworld and a progression model that revolves around impressive character upgrades. Did we mention this is one of the prettiest titles to grace Nintendo's new console? Then there's the fact that Zelda on Wii plays better than the GCN version due to remote-enhanced controls – gesture-based sword swipes deliver a welcomed level of immersion, as far as we're concerned; and aiming projectile weapons with the pointer is so much better that the old scheme feels dated and archaic. And the Wii incarnation of the game features an exclusive 16:9 widescreen mode, too. Twilight Princess is a masterful achievement, one of the best launch titles in the history of game consoles, and yet another demonstration of Nintendo's formidable development talent. Elebits earns a runner-up nod for its innovative use of the Wii controller and fun physics-based challenges.

xbox 360 game of the year "Why It Rocked: If you can only have one title on the Xbox 360 in 2006, Gears of War is it. Yes, there were plenty of excellent games on the console. There were so many that we could only thing of one question that could settle the heated debate between games like Rainbow Six: Vegas and Oblivion: If you could have only one title on the Xbox 360, what would it be?

Gears of War sets the standard for graphics and sound on the Xbox 360, pure and simple. Gears looks so good that games that once scored in the 9s in graphics are now 8s. Thankfully, Epic's awesome third-person shooter is pretty fun as well, featuring a different take on the shooter genre that had every writer in the industry typing "stop and pop" ad nauseam. Although the single-player campaign is a bit short and the multiplayer options relatively slim, playing with a friend in the seamless cooperative mode or in the four-on-four team deathmatch will leave you white-knuckled and covered in a blissful sweat. And we haven't even started talking about Insane mode.

Runners-Up:
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion & Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas"

IGN Best New Console PS3"Console launch years only come around twice a decade or so, and they're always guaranteed to be exciting years. The 360 matured dramatically since this time last year and its second-generation titles like Gears of War and CoD3 made the PlayStation 3's job of shocking the world with its immense power rather difficult.

Nintendo's Wii launched to massive mainstream applause and a lot of hope has been placed in the potential for gaming innovation via the console's unique controller. Nintendo disappointed some, however, by choosing not embrace HDTV or to compete with Sony and Microsoft in processing power. The Wii can't even play normal DVDs.

Judging the consoles based upon a broad perspective that includes software now available and coming in the future an entirely different argument could be formulated. However, from a hardware perspective, the PS3 is by far the more interesting console. Though the launch software hasn't blown anyone away, the 360's launch titles were equally unimpressive, and the system will certainly mature. Sony's embrace of the PS3 as a computer rather than just a console, and the availability of supported Linux distributions for the console will also develop and will likely bear entirely unexpected fruit in future.

Runner-Up:
Nintendo Wii"
