It looks like even though the iPhoneDevTeam has officially unlocked the new iPhone 3G, they wont be supporting it with the forthcoming PwnageTool 2.0.  This is essentially being done for 'your own good', as they want to make sure the code is 100% safe before they release it to the public.  Check out the official statement:

Quote:

So we’ve been working hard on getting the release ready and during this process we’ve been fixing some final bugs, the actual base of PwnageTool application is working fine and working with all devices that we support. We’ve been restoring our devices to various firmware revisions so that we can try to reproduce the conditions that most users will have. We are able to fully install any applications on any part of the current devices running 2.0 (and b103) and these versions are the iPhone 114, iPhone 2.0, iPhone 3G.

Apple released an update (b103) just before we were about to release and that support had to be added to the current version, it is pointless to release something that doesn’t work on devices out of the box (we’ve been told new 3Gs will have this firmware), we don’t want drama, and we want to do as little support as possible, so we want to make it right the first time.

It was lucky that we delayed slightly as we discovered a bug that causes unexpected behavior when using AppStore and third party applications on the same device. We are working on fixing that bug now, we don’t anticipate it is a big one, it has some really odd side effects, causing WiFi dropouts and the loss of stored passwords for WiFi networks. Of course this is only a minor software issue, nothing like the horrible static MAC address that another “elite byte adjuster” forced upon their users.

So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-

iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 – Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPod Touch with 2.0 – Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPhone (3G) with 2.0 – Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).

We’ve made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device. It is, of course supported on the first generation device with 2.0. We’ll push out an update with 3G support if and when it is completed.

As soon as we fix this up and test a bit more we’ll be ready for release, we’ll get back to you with a release schedule soon.

Please loosen that seatbelt slightly while our cabin crew serve you complimentary drinks.

Bungie AnnouncementThere have been rumblings about a new game coming out of Bungie Studio's, and it looks like we finally have comfirmation about what that game will be.  Recently, Bungie had a countdown set on their website to reveal a brand new project they've been working on for a while now.  Unfortunately, their "publisher" (read: Microsoft), informed them that their exciting announcement was a no-go.  Oddly enough, someone from Microsoft has apparently broken the news personally – Xbox Head of Business Don Mattrick.  Thanks for the convenient slip of the tongue Don:

Here’s something to add to all the E3 drama this week about Bungie Studios‘ canceled/postponed/hyped debut of a new game…

In an interview shot for MTV News on Tuesday, Microsoft’s head of Xbox business Don Mattrick, confirmed to me that Bungie is indeed working on a new “Halo” game of some sort for Microsoft.

I had been asking Mattrick about the lack of “Halo” news at E3. He said that Microsoft’s Monday press conference was already loaded with content and so any announcements for that series weren’t needed to get gamers excited.

I pushed him on the lack of presence for the series and asked him if we should be worried about the no-show of Ensemble Studio’s real-time-strategy game “Halo Wars.” Not only did Mattrick say not to worry and that announcements would be coming, he also said that Microsoft is working with Bungie on a “Halo” game.

I asked for clarification, wondering if Mattrick meant Bungie’s project was “Halo Wars” or the long-announced Peter Jackson “Halo” project. Neither, Mattrick said. The Bungie game is something else.

And then, not surprisingly, the topic was changed.

Right now, it is unclear on what 1.1.5 brings to the iPod Tocuh/iPhone, but this firmware is for you if you haven't gotten 2.0. But becareful what you do, this firmware might not be jailbreakable and if it is some Jailbroken apps might not work. Download at your own risk.

One w ord-wow

After spending 2 days with the much anticipated 2.0, I can’t even begin to think of why I even hesitated. 2.0 ads much anticipated features such as the App Store as well as the "Bulk Delete and Move" feature in the Mail section. What else? – Push Email, Calendar, and Contacts. So many big features were added that the little add-ons get over looked. Two of my favorite is the search while you type and now it displays the last digit you type in passwords (no more screw ups!). Yes, those are minor and seem unimportant, but they are nifty in getting things done on the go.

App Store: If apple has EVER done anything right then it is this. The app store works flawlessly and is a much needed improvement compared to the "Installer" app on Jailbroken iPods. No more soft reboots after every app you install is always a good thing. Yes, Apple does charge you for some apps, but a ton are great and even free.

Top 3 Free Apps I have and enjoy:

  • Remote: Apple did another thing great? Yes sir! Controlling your iTunes throughout your house is simply amazing. Be sure to be on the same router though; It won’t work without that.

  • AIM: It’s great. It’s fast. Its fun to use. It works just like you would imagine- IM people and get a response instantly. No delay, works just like if you were on the computer!

  • Myspace Mobile App: Myspace is great. Everybody (mostly) has one. Going to the web page takes forever and a half though on the Touch/iPhone. Now you can message people, comment people, and even add photos! his app provides an easy and effective way to get your myspace accessible anywhere!

Push Mail, Calendar, and Contacts: The Pricing of Mobile Me is a joke! $99…i think not. This proves Steve Jobs wants gold Toilet Seat. Instead, for email, I used Yahoo! Yahoo! has been doing push email since day one and it works (for some users…still reported bugs for other)!

Saving Pictures from the Web: One feature I missed most was not being able to save pictures off the internet. You would have to download it from your desktop and then sync it to your ipod. It actually took to long for my liking so that was something that was not done often in my house. Now Apple made things easier!

Bottom Line: Would I upgrade again and lose the Installer and the glory of Jailbroken?-Yes. I feel like I just bought a new ipod and I used it more in the past 2 days since the day I brought it home from the hospital…I mean circuit city. Also, knowing the 2.0 Jailbreaker is just around the corner, I can have the best of both worlds. Hit up the direct download link to get it for the iPhone, or the tutorial link if you would like to know how to get it for the touch.

 PSP 4.05

Sony has released PSP Firmware 4.05 to the public.  Not much is known about this firmware, besides the obvious added visualizers.  Check it out:

Quote:
Sony's official blog says PSP firmware 4.05, out now, contains "other features" in addition to a couple new music visualizers, but it's not clear what they are, apart from a slightly tweaked XMB animation if you've got a wallpaper setup. Go forth and download — let us know if there's anything earth-shattering in there, won't you?

UPDATE: Thanks to 1/-0 , we know more about this firmware. Sadly, this update benefits only Japanese PSP owners.

Here are the changes:

*Added new visualization effect under [Music].

Slim-only features:

* Up to 8 programs may now be scheduled for record using the One-segment TV Tuner (Japanese version only)
* You may now set up a whole series of programs to record using the One-segment TV Tuner (Japanese version only)

Halo Blue

It looks like there is even more evidence in support of a Halo game being announced at Microsofts forthcoming E3 press conference.  With only a few hours to go, we'll just have to wait and see:

Quote:

A trusted Wal-Mart source has sent Joystiq an image taken from the company's intranet, "The Wire," showing a listing for Halo "Blue." We've also received an unverified tip detailing Halo "Blue," though it's unclear whether that information stems from the same retail listing. With so little information available about what Blue is, we're guessing the shown Sept. 30 date is placeholder. The Microsoft press conference is in less than 12 hours, so stay tuned.

Price Drop
Microsoft has just officially made the well known rumored 60GB Xbox 360 Premium console a reality! To complement the storage increase, the original 20GB models will be sold for only $299.99, with the 60GB model taking the current price point of $349.99. Here's the actual press release, straight from the horse's mouth:
Quote:

Redmond, Washington—Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.

Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. In addition, Microsoft today dropped the price of its 20GB Xbox 360 console in the U.S. and Canada to just $299 (U.S.) (ERP) while supplies last, a savings of $50.

"We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we're giving it to them at no extra charge," said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. "No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you'll have three times the storage to manage all that great content."

Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft's Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games, is a value for the whole family for $279 (U.S.) (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for $449 (U.S.) (ERP).

Out of the box, the Xbox 360 console is ready to provide an incredible gaming and entertainment experience…
